True PR did have more exciting moments than Drumline. But it kinda serves as a younga maybe toned down version of PR sorda 4 2day's kid's. STILL it ayn got nuthin' on PR. Devin(Nick Cannon) couldn't read music I think I read in 1 da interviews I copied in2 my Wordpad that said Prince couldn't read music, but it didn't stop him(obvisiously). Ya think that's true? I believe I read that he can read music, he just 'doesn't' read music. Like he could probably write music, but doesn't. The Kid: "I'd like to hear em, you got em written down somewhere?" Father: "Naw man, I don't write em' down, it's a big difference between u and me..." (Purple Rain) I might have misquoted a bit, but still funny His daddy was mean as hell in the movie. Blue Blue

"Purple Rain" fits the film formula of "underdog makes good."
So, it's less a matter of a film like "Drumline" or "8 Mile" being like "Purple Rain," and more of a matter of the films following similar (or tired) plot arcs. Shucks, you ever seen the "Bad News Bears?"

I'd h8 2 stare @ sum weird characters 4 hours esp. when rehearsing it. LoLz that's the truth,da dad wuz mean. I h8ed da part when he smacked 'The Kid' back..makes me wanna jump in2 da film & smack da shit ouhda the daddy, ThreadBare said: "Purple Rain" fits the film formula of "underdog makes good."

Shucks, you ever seen the "Bad News Bears?" Yea I see whatchu sayin' in the comparisons. Da reason why I sorda thought I seena lil' PR in it wuz how on Drumline Devin always wanted 2 play things his own way, neva wit the line. Basically everything his way & that sorda reminded me of TK from PR how he neva played that song the girls wanted him 2 play & etc. 'til the end. & it's like in Drumline it wuzn't 'til 'bout the end Devin starts 2 change & knows that everybody hears the line not him. & nope I neva seen 'Bad News Bear'-What's that about? You young'uns, wit' yer "20s & younger Prince fan" threads and yer not knowin' about "The Bad News Bears! Y'all are just tryin' to make me feel old!!!! Confound it!!! OK, just had to get that outta my system. I'm good. It's about a little league baseball team full of misfits who can't seem to win for anything, until coached by a lovable curmudgeon played by the inimitable Walter "Eat My Shorts" Matthau. It certainly wasn't the first to employ such a plot, but it had a streak of sequels in the 1970s (early 1980s -- even a TV series, if I remember correctly). In recent years, most similar films have included "The Mighty Ducks" films, that stupid Keanu Reeves movie about football, etc.
