How seriously do you take Prince's philosophies-of-the-moment?

Prince's personal philosophies are constantly evolving, and I've noticed while some fams are happy to gently mock or even ridicule his personal beliefs, others "adopt" his current beliefs/life-views. That's a little scary. Personally I don't look to Prince for wisdom or help in the philosphical realm; I just think of him as a gifted musical artist. Occasionally he may provoke thought on a serious subject, but overall it's MUSIC that he brings, not education or wisdom. I'm just wondering how many people out there are thinking he's some kind of prophet, and how many are able to see him strictly as a great musical artist.

I don't take them seriously at all.

Every year, there's some new myth we're supposed to subscribe to regarding religion, spirituality, technology, cursing, politics, race, record companies, music, piracy, downloading, etc.

If you take all or any of it seriously, it's enough to make your head spin, because next year's philosophy will be at odds with this year's, and you'll end up just as insane as Prince, only without the talent and flair for turning it into (mostly) listenable or (occasionally) brilliant music.

I TAKE THEM REAL SERIOUS. HIS NEW VIEWS IMPOSED ON HIM BY LARRY AND THE JW CULT ARE A THREAT TO NATIONAL SEXUALITY.

I really think that each person is free to make his/her own decisions. In that way, by your own experiences you evolve.
It would be a great joke to live a life evolving through someone else's experiences in life.

I take Prince only as an artist, as a serious artist. But at the same time as a whole.
I believe that he lives with a conviction of a heart.
By this, I'm not saying that what (in his personal life) he does, thinks or pusues is right or wrong. He's not a model for me. I admire him a lot his talents, however.
I'm an agnostic person, so I do not worship what people call "God". How can I take
On the other hand, I DO believe in karma. In "what you give is what you get".

Going even deeper... the only and closest instance I (and I think, most of us) can be to Prince is his music.
If his message is right for living a good life, then it's right for me and my lifestyle.
Now, for the ones who belive in "God"...
Please, pray for Prince to RELEASE ALL HIS DAMN VAULT MATERIAL!!!

lol

I don't take them that seriously, considering I don't know the guy. Sometimes I agree or find a bit of truth in whatever current nonsense he's spouting, and sometimes I don't.

I think all in all, he's very fickle (duh!) and superstitious. A lot of his ideas are pretty paranoid.

I respect and Listen to his Philosophies. I Have Tried however I am Just Too Much a Hedonist to Abandon All things for Jehovah. I am going back to Buddism. I will study and maybe one day Prince can discuss his Philosophies and I will Discuss mine.

Prince is easily bored and he always has some changes going on, with his beliefs, his music, his look, his women, his band. Just roll with the changes because none of the changes he makes are ever permanent.

I don't take 'em seriously, because Prince is middle-aged, and all celebs go mad when they hit 40. Look at Madonna, for example...Prince is just searching for meaning in life, and that's cool. I still have my youth though, so I wanna have sin and have fun. cool

does prince educate ? i guess every moment one lives has an educating side, and listening/enjoying prince would, in that sense, be educating.

for me, years back the album around the world in a day served an educating role.
i still love it and rate it among the strongest and most beautiful releases from prince. here are a few of my favorite quotes that I find very wise and ... hell yeah, educating !!!
of course you can put anything into it and it it is subjective what meaning you get from it. but the simplicity of around the world in a day is beautiful

from titletrack:

Open your heart, open your mind
A train is leaving all day

Loneliness already knows U
There ain't no reason 2 stay
Come here and take my hand, I'll show U
I think I know a better way, y'all

Around the world in a day
(listen 2 me, babe)
Around the world in a day
(all the babies sing it now)

from paisley park:

There is a park that is known
4 the face it attracts
colorful people whose hair
On 1 side is swept back
The smile on their faces
It speaks of profound inner peace
Ask where they're going
They'll tell U nowhere
They've taken a lifetime lease
On Paisley Park

from pop life:

Pop life
Everybody needs a thrill
Pop life
We all got a space 2 fill
Pop life
Everybody can't be on top
But life it ain't real funky
Unless it's got that pop
Dig it

from the ladder:

A feeling of self-worth (everybody's looking)
will caress U (for the answers)
The size of the whole wide world will decrease (how the story started)
(and how it will end)
The love of God's creation will undress U
And time spent alone my friend, will cease

Everybody's looking 4 the answers
How the story started and how it will end
What's the use in half a story, half a dream
U have 2 climb all of the steps in between (yeah, we ride)

Everybody's looking 4 the ladder
Everybody wants salvation of the soul
The steps U take are no easy road (the steps you take are no easy road)
(it's not that easy)
But the reward is great
4 those who want 2 go (I do)

Right there with you. Another good example for me is R.E.M. I never agree with their (particularly Stipe's) politics, but, damn, was the music good.

I really don't have to agree with anything Prince says to love the music. Its a bonus if I do.
