the question should be...

what is a more Ballsier Release by the man?

-they both came at interesting moments in his career.

he had to know both were Very Challanging albums for the general public, atleast Lovesexy had his last brilliant single, in Alphabet Street (Letitgo would be 2nd.)

personally i love RC. Love it. it showed that he still had the balls to say F-It. he was gonna do what He Wanted.

---but as far as what album impacted me personally the most?

DEFINITLY LOVESEXY!

because it was so definitly unexpected. especially with the Black Album tie in. i remember being on a class field trip the day it was released and sneaking out of the field trip---and roaming off into downtown detroit with my friend trying to find a Record Store. well, to make short post, long...we found one and i bought Lovesexy.

snuck back to the rest of the class just in time to catch the bus back to the school. the funniest thing was, the record store was out of bags (or, atleast they said so) so i had to carry around the LP without a bag...trying to hide it from the teachers and all. i was able to sneak it on the bus, but everyone on the bus made such a big deal about the cover art, the teachers caught on to me and...i ended up with a 3 day lunchtime suspension (ewwwww, scary. i know!)

----but when i got home and actually dropped it on the turntable.

THAT IS THE MOMENT.

it hit me.

almost as hard as ATWIAD hit me, because it was so unexpected as a whole.

i didn't have the internet back in 1988 (i know...i'm a slacker confused )
like i did when TRC was released, so i was not as surprised by TRC, except that i loved
the slowed-down-naration (unlike most who complained about it before it was released.)

i love them both. because they are Great albums. because they took balls to release.

-but Lovesexy definitly hit me harder.

I really liked the way everyone discussed this. They gave their opinions, which were very valid, they didn't call anything "crap". They said what they liked and why. Cool discussion.

hi every body!

im glad this topic is here.....i was thinking about it and i have to say that for me..

LOVESEXY WINS HANDS DOWN!

the only problem i have with it is that he decided not to break up the tracks.

btw,is it just me ,or does 1+1+1=3 sounds like something he did back in 1988?..that old prince funk sound?..i hear that song in my head and i think of the alphabet st.video...yep i can see it! cool

Both albums are SO diverse in musical style and lyrics. Very difficult to give good arguments!

I like Lovesexy better because it sounds very playful and dynamic. It's very passionate.

I think TRC has lots of beautiful musical moments, but is let down a bit by heavy lyrical content, extended intros and jams and vader voices...
still a brilliant album!

But Lovesexy.. it's not music. It's a trip! smile

Magic from beginning to end.

My vote is for Lovesexy.

I really love The Rainbow Children but it doesn't flow quite as well as Lovesexy. Plus I think Lovesexy is more playful. However, musically TRC blows Lovesexy out of the water.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like Lovesexy got 27 votes, and The Rainbow Children got 12. Not saying that's good or bad, just counting. Unless someone adds more votes after this.

Lovesexy had a great message, the videos were some of his best, and the tour... if you don't think it was his greatest tour to date, you must've missed it. One of the greatest items in my collection is a 2 disk DVD of the Dortmund show transferred from the Laserdisc. Waited 16 years to get my hands on that, but it was worth it. The hair, the clothes... come on. His career hightlight to me, greatest accomplishment IMO.

The Rainbow Children was worth it for Last December, I will say that about it.

Lovesexy. That's easy for me.

Lovesexy is an album that re-defined Prince, and at the same time,, was accessible, free-wheeling, unpretentious, original, serious and FUN, all at the same time. eye No is the greatest song about spirituality Prince has ever done. "Alphabet St." is one of his best singles. "When 2 R In Love" is a top-tier Prince ballad (Black Album holdover, I know, but still . . .)

The themes from this LP endured in Prince's music for a long time. "New Power Generation," "Newpowersoul," etc. Time will tell if TRC has the same effect.

TRC was an exquisite LP from a musical perspective, and it is Prince's "neo manifesto," but as far as the content and message, it was more obscure, more muddled and more exclusive than Lovesexy. As I see it, there are a lot of tracks on the LP that stand up to some of his best 90's work, but some are a little corny and incoherent. The title track, "Muse 2 the Pharaoh." and "1+1+1=3" really prop up this LP if you ask me. "Family Name" and "Everlasting Now" really don't impress me more than, say, "The Sacrifice of Victor," but they're all good tracks.

On balance, Lovesexy is the superior LP . . .

Yep saw Livesexy in Minneapolis right after Dortmund....it was an even better show!! IN the minni show the whole Cross the Line concept was pushed much further by Prince which culminated in a furious guitar solo in a blinding white light.

I just recently got a hold of Livesexy on dvd. The quality is 7/10 it being the brazilian release. Still waiitng to get a copy of german release laserdisc on dvd.:/

I'm telling you... my DVD is 10/10 and I am loving it. Aside from when Prince showed it at the 2000 Celebration during "Lovesexy Night," I never... in a million years thought I would see it this clear.

I know what you mean about the tour. I had 15th row when he came to McNichols Arena here in Denver on November 3rd, 1988. It was without a doubt, a life changing experience.

LOVESEXY!
Just happen to love TRC also. But I have listened to Lovesexy more than any other Prince album. It never fails to energize me and make me forget any troubles in my life. It is really healing for me. When I am on my death bed I have instructed my husband to play Prince for me, especially Lovesexy. Wierd? Maybe, but I think I could make a miracle comeback and jump out of bed and live a while longer. Very healing to my psyche. How can you explain a thing like that? Well it seems some of you guys would agree with me! Wow. Never knew but a couple of slight Prince fans personally. You guys are amazing to me.

Ye I'm totally with you on that one,Lovesexy really uplifts me, I feel you can really escape when you listen to it and kinda go into a good feel vibe. That must be some good shit.

Lovesexy is also the 1st Prince album I can recall seeing on a shelf in my local music shop(Woolworths) in fact its probably the only album cover that sticks in my mind from the 80s. That cover kinda caught my eye in a special way. lol

I saw that one on ebay as well, but I believe that one is transferred from a VHS tape. I'm not positive, but I would ask for a screen cap or picture before I bid on that. I lucked out how I found mine.

This is straight from the officially released LaserDisc, I guess the German release, but the quality is perfect.

There are absolutely no waves or picture discrepencies, anywhere during the whole 2 hours. I promise you... this was not transferred from a video tape.

I don't have the software to do screen caps, but I can post a digital pic of the TV screen and it looks pretty good. Here's a close-up of Prince during "The Cross."

DVD transferred from LaserDisc:

My old VHS copy:

The color and picture are really distorted on the VHS version I have. The screen jumps and the tape seems to bend at the top of the screen from time to time.

Doesn't even come close to the new DVD I have. The VHS has a "hiss" in the sound, the DVD is top notch quality from what was released.
