Parents, how are your kids diggin' Musicology?

I've got an 8 yr old boy and 6 yr old girl...this is the first Prince
album that they like, ya'll didn't hear me....they actually requested
it in the car last night! shocked
They both bounce to Musicology, the song, and yesterday my son
admitted to liking ICPC, to which my daughter said, yeah, me too!
Last night, they told me they like that song that comes after ICPC...
A Million Miles!!!
And I know my son likes Reflection, but haven't gotten a response from
my daughter yet...

This is great news ya'll...we're bonding in a way that I never thought we
would, agreeing on Prince music! I never thought I'd see the day...

What's your kids' response to Musicology?
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I've said it before . . . and I'll say it again . . . I'm not too keen on sharing my musical tastes with 8 and 9 year olds - shouldn't there be a generation gap or something? Hell yeah ! confused

What the hell do you mean by that! Prince fams can be any age and we have the freedom to do just as much as the oulder Prince fams. If we are aloud to join the NPGMC we should be aloud in here! And if you are refering to me when you said "I'm not too keen on sharing my musical tastes with 8 and 9 year olds" just to let you know I m not 8 of 9! I think it is you that need to grow up! nod Young Prince fams have just as many rights to Prince sites as you do! nod

I mentioned this in another thread but my six year old son likes Musicology. He's listened a lot of other Prince stuff too, we've watched the Rave DVD (in on it! In the crowd!) and the Live at the Aladdin DVD together. He's always like Prince but it seems like he is really feeling this album! He has also specially requested it a few times. Yesterday when the song Musicology came on he said "I REALLY love this song!" I've shown him the video too, I got it on the computer. He sings along with Illusion, Coma, Pimp, and Circumstance" (doesn't get the right lyrics but he tries on the chorus) I'm bringing him to one of the shows in St. Paul in June. SHould be fun!

Go luck with all that! Sounds like he will grow up very nicely unlike some other people in this world! Just hope he will grow up liking Prince! People in public schools will make fun of him for liking Prince but if he strongly likes Prince he will never give up on his liking! Trust me, I know! I m going through it now! nod So good luck! You sound like a great parent leting him listen to Prince! big grin Most parents wouldn't let their childeren listen to him! big grin Best Of Luck In Life! smile

My son has actually been to Prince concerts back in the Fall/Winter of 1997. At Paisly Park in September and the Targer Center in Minneapolis in December. He doesn't remember because he was in his mama's belly at the time!! biggrin

When he was born one of our friends who is also a big fan made him a onsie dyed purple with the Prince symbol on it (as that was when he was "The Artist Form... or whatever) We dressed him in it sometimes! I've got pictures, I'll have to post one sometime!

My 8 and 10 year old sons totally love the new album! My youngest has been digging Prince for years already, so that was no surprise to me...but now even my eldest is getting hooked. If we don't have Musicology in the player when we go somewhere in the car, they won't go with me! The little one goes around singing "Who's pimpin' whooooo" absolutely everywhere and any time, that was the first song they caught on to...in a big way. If it were up to them, they would be playing it over and over again 100 times, I kid you not...I have to stop them sometimes cause I'm afraid I'll tire of the song too soon the way they're carrying on! biggrin Their other favourites from the album are Marrying Kind and IFWTMIYL, so they're basically into the funkier of the songs. And mummy is proud as hell, she's sho nuff done The Work on these kids! touched

just making an observation - when my kids were 12 they played Purple Rain so often they killed it for me.

Well - I have 3 girls: 14, 10, 7...

The 14 yr old be frontin like she don't really care... but when I play Prince music - she knows the words & sings along... (u know teenagers) -NOW her favorite answer 2 everything is..... with a clinched fist in the air "These are my records!" lol

The 10 yr old absolutely loves Prince - I took her with me 2 the Musicology concert Mar29th @ the Staples Center in LA. She digs the CD tho alot... she likes ICPC & Life o the Party, she is always asking 4 Prince in the car - she even borrows my 'Very Best of Prince' CD 2 listen on her own cd player - I'm in heaven with her... (Her favorite song of Prince is 'Thieves in The Temple')

The 7 yr old - she doesnt have much of an opinion yet about Musicology - I asked her if she likes it & she said yeah with a big smile... so I guess that's good... haha... Yesterday we watched Purple Rain @ home & I asked my 7 yr old did she like it & she had same reaction - big smile & said yeah !

I LOVE IT! lol Lately, since i'm between jobs, i'm the one who drops them off to school
and picks them up too. So, my wife is hardly in the car with us...she had no idea how
much these kids love the new CD.
Today, we all jumped in the car to go out to dinner...my son requested Musicology,
I smiled and put it on...Imagine her surprise when he's singing WORD FOR WORD
to the song and our daughter is boucin' her head to the beat!
The look she gave me was priceless!

I can't wait to get Musicology then. I am damn sick of Raspberry Beret ("rasberryduray" is how they sing it) on repeat in the car sad My sons, 2 and nearly 4 scream if I put on another song at the moment. Lets hope they will like the new album (they like the little boy in the video a lot, especially when he sings into the vacuum and plays the guitar).

It's so great to hear of the youth liking this CD or the songs off of it. It goes to show you that Prince is for EVERYBODY. With that said, we have to call the radio stations and get this song played and also vote on the video shows like TRL and 106th and Park so that more of the youth can get the revlelation.

biggrin
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
