When I read some of the comments I've read for the past couple of weeks, these questions comes to mind:
Why does Prince HAVE to be experimental with his music?

Why does he have to be deep on every song?

Can the man just make fun music?

Can the fans leave the past alone for a minute?

I haven't even heard the damn CD and I'm wondering if he can ever win with some of you. I hope to like it when I get it but if I don't, I don't. If I don't like it, I can't see myself coming in here day in and day out and continually dogging on someone who does. I can't. Let's have fun seeing where this trip takes Prince and us. It's already been a wild year and it's just April.

Peace y'all!
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Come on. Musicology stinks. Prince has got a chance to make a big come-back and he's blowing it with a bad album, just like he blew his chance when he made a little stir before Rave was released by announcing in a press conference that "Prince" instead of prince would be the producer.
All Prince is going to do after stiring up this new interest in him at the grammies, is remind most people of why they turned from him in the first place. Crappy music.
I really think that this is his last chance.

Some of you seem to forget, that people like when an artist is accessible. Prince has certainly been that. As opposed to a big mystery. It worked for him in the beginning, but it can't last. By delivering consistently dope shows, people want to hear more from him. I think 'Musicology' is good enough to sustain that interest.

Really? How many people here say that they LOVED "New Power Soul", or "Rave", or all the worthless rap tracks w/Tony M?

Just seems like you build yourself up for disappointment more than anything else. I do think some people believe he can do no wrong, but it is equally true that some people set themselves up for a disappointment. I can't really say if that is what you are doing. How many people do you think would really take to a Prince dropping an experimental album. I give him credit for dropping new albums. He could just as easily re-record a lot of vault songs that he knows are huge amongst his fan base and let them loose on the public.

I'd prefer hot vault stuff over this, and so would a lot of people.

Prince is only doing well because of the promotion of the old songs. Musicology itself isn't helping him at all.

That's not true at all (and even if it were, I don't see why that would matter at all). My little sister, who has been a VERY casual fan since the Purple Rain days, just told me that she's been listening to this album a lot since I burned it for her. eek I've been burning her Prince CDs for at least 5 years and she always listens to them once to be nice, but that's it.

She said the new one reminded her of his old music.

I think very few people would say it sounds like his old music. She's free to her opinion though, as odd as it is.

What are you going to say when this CD makes it's debut on the charts. Go back to listening to Slipknot and losers like Mariyln Manson and give this board a rest.

What are you going to say when this CD doesn't make the charts? Go back to listening to "Telepathy" by Deborah Allen and losers like TC Ellis and give this board a rest.

It's true though. No matter how lame Prince's music is, the fans, or "fams" will claim to love it. They want to love it so much that they actually will.

Disagree EWM - it does in my opinion reflect old music and I really honestly do like the new album - singing in my car again you know? Really superb and I am genuinely sorry that you too dont feel it because you are missing out! ( oh and I am no sicophant BTW)

Look, I seriously doubt there are enough "hardcore fam" types to fill the Staples Center for five nights. Fact of the matter is, the guy's on a high right now and the "mainstream" is all over his scrawny ass this year. He's in Time. He's in Newsweek. He's becoming more ubiquitous in the media as the year progresses. It's not some kind of fan delusion - the fact is, the guy is making a full-on comeback.

So you don't like his album? Fine. I don't like pickles, but that doesn't mean stocks in Vlassic are plummeting to disaster levels. Don't confuse your personal opinions and tastes with what's really going on. It's kinda delusional and self-defeating.

I don't think I'm missing out. The majority of music out there sucks, so this is one less album that I need to waste time with. I save money by not buying it.

If you think cucumbers are as juicy and versatile for pickling as they used to be, you're clearly in denial. Nature is obviously a dried-up has-been, at least where pickles are concerned.

E-Dub... you're very good at provocation, I'll give you that, lol.. Doesn't bother me at all. After checking out your profile, I suppose 'going back to his roots' would mean doing something reminiscent of LoveSexy for example...no? What's funny and what makes the so-called Prince community such an interesting one is that many would consider LoveSexy a piece of crap, lol. I'm not one of them, but it seems every album 'cept for maybe 3 or 4 has its lovers and haters. The music is as diverse as we are as listeners. So you think Musicology sucks... ooookay. Someone else will think the Tony M phase was a period of remarkable funky tracks and that Lady Cab Driver was too long, lol. I respect you as someone who is into Prince's music, but who gives a F*ck what you hate? lol.. Seems like you just like to pop people's balloons razz

The backlash over your comments and the original poster's almost proves your point about fams actually wink IMO folks shouldn't get so riled up that a couple guys get off on pissing on everyone's parade.

People should open their umbrellas and let it bounce off, instead of letting the piss soak their skin and make them all mad and shit.

Then there should be no problem. I'm expressing my opinion, just like everyone else. If I appear repetative it's because I'm in the minority, so I stand out more. The fams repeat themselves too, but since they are more, it's not as obvious.
