Why does Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic credit "Produced, arranged, written and performed by Prince"? Wasn't he supposed to be at the time?

It says:

Arranged, composed and performed by

Originally the official website announced that the album had a surprise guest producer.

The official press release announcing the album release in August 1999 stated that the album would be produced by Prince.

And, yes, it was only in May, 2000 that he announced that he was going to abandon the symbol and reassume the name, Prince.

It was suggested at the time by some that the use of 'Prince' as the named producer on 'Rave' in some way referred to a revisiting of former production techniques and values used before the name change. Others however considered that it was merely a whimsical way to spark some interest - to give the press something to write about so they would review the album - maybe even that Arista suggested they needed an angle to help the marketing and the association with wasn't helping them.
