My Old Ass Weird CD Copy Of Around The World In A Day

Here's some old skool for ya...I'm finally thinking of getting a CD copy of Around the World In A Day that's packaged in a jewel case, cuz I have one of the old old old copies that was packaged in a cardboard trifold "longbox" sleeve, with a cardboard slipcase tucked in the middle containing the actual CD. Does anyone else have this version of the CD? Does anyone know if it's worth anything? My copy's gotten to be a bit of an unwieldy eyesore, and I'd rather just have something that looks like the rest of my CD collection and that might be a little more durable to boot...not that my copy of ATWIAD is mangled by any means, but sheez...it looks like cardboard is supposed to look after (holy crap) TWENTY YEARS.

Should I just tuck it away or is it a rarity? I never hear mention of this packaging gimmick for the album, so who knows. It could be worth something someday, but then again, I really don't like to "collect" stuff that I don't get some kind of enjoyment out of on a regular basis...when I get into a "collector" mode, I wind up with too much crap in my home....hmmm...shrug

That's the first longbox pressing, and I have only seen one for sale used in the shops, and it was barely intact. People must have only kept the 5.5" x 5.5" sleeve and chucked the cool folder. It's somewhat rare, but probably not worth a ton. People do seek them out, though.

I think I have the "traditional" 2nd pressing longbox.

I have one of those "weird" ATWIAD CDs. But I purchased mine used (in good condition) & I only bought it because I thought it was strange & rare. I have the regular jewel-box CD & just keep the "weird" one away in a box.

Um...I just realized that there is no real point to my response other than to say that I have it!
Don't know how rare it is but that packaging is pretty odd.

I've got one too. I've seen 2 different versions of it too - one with the printing on the cd in green, another in aquamarine. Don't know what it's worth though. I got mine back in the day, but I saw a vendor selling one at a Record Show recently for $30. I'd hold onto it Anx. It's pretty cool if you ask me.

I think I bought the 2nd pressing of the longbox back in the day, becaues I had to cut the cover from the longbox & use that as a CD cover.I don't remember a cardboard sleeve. And wasn't the boy w/ the baloon a sticker pressed on the box?

Hang on to it. IIRC, the screenprinted art on the CD itself is 10x better than the new version. The current version has that plain standard WB face.

I have one. It's one of the first discs I purchased in the mid eighties. I keep all of my discs in CD envelopes so having it is not too much trouble for me.
The print on my CD is aqua blue and I believe it was manufactured in Germany.

I say keep it. It's gorgeous.

Talk about old school in terms of CDs... I have Purple Rain from when CDs were new. How new? Well, it seems that they were all manufactured in Germany for a little while because the process was invented there (?) and until the copyright ran out (?) that's where they were made. Not the packaging, but the CD itself.

Still plays, uh, last I checked.

I bought the one with the cardboard trifold thing with the slipcase but it wasn't until I decided I would go all "cd" and give my sister my Prince cassettes.(like '89) I bought it discounted I believe at the time. I also cut the slipcase apart to make my own jewel box insert. LOL lol

Yep -- I've got the same longbox version with the ugly green CD. Unfortunately, my long cardboard sleeve bit the dust years ago and I only have the sleeve and the CD now. I've been thinking about getting a new one in an standard case because the lyrics were printed on the inside of the long cardboard box.
