Why Prince would be smart to include Judas Smile as the b-side of Musicology

If Prince released Judas Smile (or any of the other TCI or Slaughterhouse tracks) as the b-side on retail CD singles, people with the Musicology album would buy them for the bonus tracks; NPGMC members would buy them for CD-quality versions of tracks they only have as downloads.

The biggest reason to do it, though, is to turn people onto the NPGMC - include a note on the CD case saying 'taken from the EXCLUSIVE album The Chocolate Invasion ONLY AVAILABLE at www.npgmusicclub.com - and many people who buy the single will be curious enough to check out the site and see what else is there.

See, I absolutely adore On The Couch, but from a business perspective, it was a bad choice for the b-side.

Since the early nineties Prince and advisors haven't been too hot on the business perspective side of things.

e.g. the choice of single releases, lack of promotion, lack of video, the choice of record cover, etc.

Your idea has merit but is unlikely to happen

I think we have to be a tad realistic.

Sony agree to manufacture, promote and distribute an album he is already giving away for free, and making available for download on his website, but you think they might also agree to include a track on the single which is featured on a separate download on his website, so he gets extra promotion for other downloads on which Prince makes all the money.

Who's pimpin' who?

wink

Anxiety

I thought "Magnificent" is supposed to be the b-side for "Musicology"? I know "On the Couch" is listed, but who knows how many different pressings there'll be for the single? confused
