Musicology is from the vault (details inside)

"the marrying kind" and "if i was the man in your life" were replaced by "da da da" and "courtin' time".

prince decided after recording the album that he wanted all 3 discs of emancipation to be exactly 60 minutes in length, so he pulled these 2 tracks from the collection and created 2 really shitty songs to put on emancipation so accomplish this.

both "da da da" and "courtin' time" were conceived while prince was on the toilet, shortly after he made all rooms at paisley park wired for sound. if you listen closely, you can hear toilet sounds on both tracks, including the toilet flushing, the toilet overflowing, etc.

where the other tracks originally came from:
  • "musicology" is from "the rainbow children". it was removed from the album because the song didn't fit the entire tone of the album (aka "love god, hate whitey")
  • "illusion, coma, pimp & circumstance" was originally from "come" period. it was to follow "pheromone". the song is about carmen electra and prince meeting again in 2025.
  • "a million days" is originally from 1992's O+> album. it was considered again for "chaos and disorder" as well, but prince wanted to make "c&d" under 40 minutes. he replaced "a million days" with "right the wrong", which has since become a fan favorite and is played nearly every night he is on tour.
  • "life o' the party" was originally written for tc ellis paisley park album. prince has since considered it for "newpower soul" and the unreleased doug e fresh album. the song was dramatically reworked for "musicology," replacing rhonda's horrible vocals with candy's.
  • "call me" was originally written for mayté in 1993, but since he'd just changed his name to an unpronouncable symbol, he pulled it from inclusion on "the hits/the b-sides" and included a live version of "nothing compares 2 u" instead. he considered putting it on "rave un2 the joy fantastic", but after a nasty breakup that included mayté sending prince a vhs tape of her and tommy lee... well, he waited until he could put the song on an album where he could pretend he'd written it about someone else. "call me" was replaced on "rave.." by "man 'o' war".
  • "cinnamon girl" was originally included on "roadhouse garden", but when prince and larry graham couldn't convince wendy and lisa to stop being lesbians, he pulled the entire project. he said the song couldn't be performed without their backup vocals. (much like how he'd never perform the song "diamonds and pearls" live again without rosie.)
  • "what do u want me 2 do" is originally from "one nite alone" (which was originally recorded just after "the truth" sessions in 1997, by the way). the song was originally written for piano, but near the end of the recording, kirk johnson sent prince a remix of the track that included drum tracks sampled from past hits. prince also considered putting it on "rave un2 the joy fantastic", but clive davis told him to save it for another album since "rave" was already going to be a worldwide smash that would bring prince back into the limelight again.
  • "on the couch" was originally written for mavis's 1993 npg album. it was meant to be a duet between her and prince, but mavis felt that prince's "sheep" fans would be very upset about him sleeping with the much older mavis. the song was replaced by "all because of you". prince considered it again for 1997's "the truth", but was still deeply affected by their big breakup that included a vhs copy of mavis and tommy lee being sent to prince...
  • "dear mr. man" was originally a b-side to "the work", but since "the work" didn't get any airplay, it was never released as a single. he considered it putting it on the "u make my sunshine" single, but got confused when he thought he was talking about "call my name", which sounded too much like "u make my sunshine". anyways, instead of keeping the mood going with another ballad, he put up his remake of "when will we b paid."
  • "reflection" was originally written to be included on the "we are the world" album. he wrote the song as a duet to be sung with michael jackson, but when quincy jones heard the track he was so upset that he banned prince from the recording of the title track. quincy made michael sever all ties, though he has since named his son after prince, in honor of the time they spent together on a bunk bed during sleepovers at Neverland. (Which is where Prince originally met Mayté, his future wife.)

R U sure "Reflection" was written for Michael? I though he sent Prince a VHS of him with Tommy Lee too? Hence "Billy Jack Bitch" ...

Actually, all this info is wrong. The entire album was originally suppossed to be given to MeShell N'Deocello, but she wanted to change all the lyrics to reflect the fact that white men are evil (with the exception of John Mellencamp, of course). Prince felt that this was wrong (as John Mellencamp is indeed evil), and refused her.

I believed this too but only because the album doesn't really flow. And some of the songs do remind me of Chaos and Disorder and the Symbol Album. The parts that are hard to listen to.

Well some people think that Weird Al Yankovic is funny. Your cornball humor is tired. Don't give up your day job.
