Face It Haters, Prince Won The War...

We've all seen you, (you know who you are), comin' round here over the last few months, talkin' loud, spewin' negativity for negativity's sake, just hoping, praying, prediciting that Muiscology would flop, reviewing it as trash (probably the identical review you wrote prior to actually hearing it), assuring us that the tour would suck, that he couldn't fill arenas, that radio and the media wouldn't touch him, that giving away the CD was a dumb idea, that he was forever washed up, that he needs to sound more like this, or write songs like that, blah, blah, blah. (An strangely loving it, which speaks volumes about your own self-hatred, as you visit here daily.)

Now it's time to step up, and say, "Prince proved me wrong - I deserve a severe spankin'!"

The evidence:
Grammys/RRHOF performances - Legendary
Musicology Tour - On Fire (Pollstar#1)
Musicology single and video - poised to be his biggest in nearly 10 years
Musicology album - getting kudos from all over the world
Musicology Tour - Ditto
Musicology Theater Simulcast - Savy
Media - Eatin' Him Up! (Newsweek, Time, Rolling Stone, etc.
NPGMC - Downloads being gobbled up
Prince - RRHOF inductee, media darling, and #1 at the bank (probably will make more this year than ever before)
Prince fans - Get very solid album, celebrated tour, downloads, lots of P. in the press, and more to discuss here than in years

*So let's see who's gonna admit that maybe, just maybe, Prince knew a little more than you did about how to do things. Just maybe, it's time to let go of that tired, old, hard-to-maintain hatin' facade and simply fess up; that Prince is still funky, still writing songs that keep you here, and cooler than ever cause he never melted down or faded away, and now people are wakin' up. Who's gonna come up big and admit, Prince won? Some of ya'll may be too "Evil" or "Freaky" to do that, but hey, we all know what time it is! cool

Time for the Nay-Sayers to become Yah-Sayers! Step into the light so we can all see ya, and greet you with a sound spankin' and a big ol' funky kiss!

"Listen to the groove ya'll, let it unwind yo mind!"

And it's time for some to stop lying claiming they said the lead-off single would flop when they clearly said the album would flop without even hearing it: "you don't have to hear it to know how it'll turn out," then coming back to post threads about how good it is...

I'm not sure that I would call people "haters" just because they are surprised by the commercial success of Prince these past few months. I never thought he would sell out arenas like this, but that didn't make me a hater. Anyway, I am glad to be wrong on that one and I'm glad that Prince is selling lots of tickets.

I don't think that commercial success is the only kind of success that Prince strives for. Some might say that doing a greatest hits tour is a lame way to make some money, but I figure that he did the great ONA tour a couple of years ago, so allow him to "sell out" just a little and make some serious cash. Plus many casual Prince fans will enjoy this tour more and maybe Prince will enjoy playing to arenas too. As I said elsewhere, all the millions of dollars he makes will just buy him even greater artistic freedom and I hope he enjoys spending some of it on leisure as well. Congratulations, Prince...

Sorry, but I don't like Musicology, and there is no reason why I should have to apologize to you or anyone else for that. You're talking like George Bush with your "youre either for us or against us" drivel. Someone saying they don't like Musicology doesnt make them stupid any more than saying you like it turns you into Einstein.

It sounds like you're so eager to place yourself in an "Im right, youre wrong" position, that youre completely losing touch with reality.

And why does some mainstream praise of the album validate its worth to you, when for years the opposite never held true?

People's appreciation of art is also largely subjective. Why not accept the fact that people have diverse interests instead of complaining about it. It just seems pointless to argue that one persons opinion is better than anothers.

I like this, this is very funny and very true, However I hope you are ready for the load of shit you are going to get for pointing out these facts. I am very happy with all of Prince's success this year and I look forward to going to the concert at the end of April. Still I support your post. As I stated earlier this post is very funny and true. So even though I don't think you will get people admitting that they are wrong I salute you just the same!!!!

So in other words, are you going to choke up and admit a majority of his output from the past decade was complete shit, because it didn't even recieve a fraction of the attention he's getting now? Noone was cheering for Prince in the magazines and on TV when Chaos dropped, when New Power Soul dropped, when NPGMC dropped... And lets get back to this thread a year from now when the 20 year anniversary of Purple Rain has passed...

If Jane Doe only likes Purple Rain, Under The Cherry Moon, and Sign O The Times

And John Doe only likes Dirty Mind, Graffiti Brigde and The Gold Experience

and Jack Doe loves every Prince album released to date.

Then, whippin skippy, who gives a fuck, thats life. The first two are not barred from coming to this site because they dont adore every last drop of output from Prince. Insisting that someone does sounds a whole lot like cult mentality...

Prince won the war big time. And only someone as unique and talented as Prince could do it.
Like I said before, the haters wanted to see Prince shrivel up and die or become a total wack job. Since neither happened, they hate him even more. I don't mean to bring race into it, but the fact that a Black man has totally beat the system makes them evil white males even more hateful. evillol

So glad to have that on the record. The only reason why Musicology wouldn't chart high is artificial -- the fact he's giving it away at concerts. It's a gamble, and it could either work or hurt his chances ON the charts. In terms of copies distributed, he'll be a winner. If it charts well in spite/due to this the distribution at concerts, then he'll be writing a new chapter in pop history. And this year, everything he has planned has turned out to be a commercial or critical success.

We'll see soon enough.

Quit trippin', man. lol

Of course I want the album to do well. Why would I not want a favourite artist of mine to be getting recognition for their talent. I simply ain't getting my hopes up too much. For nearly every album he's released in the last 10 years he's supposedly been on the verge of a commercial comeback. Emancipation got a lot of glowing reviews and Prince did a hefty amount of promotion but it still didn't do a great deal of business. I think Musicology as a lead off single is huge gamble in itself. It doesn't have that classic Prince sound that will remind people of his former glories nor does it sound like anything new/fresh. Personally, I think he needs a couple of really strong singles to garner huge interest in the album. And that might not happen. I'm just being cautious so as not to feel let down if it all falls flat.

Or are you just pulling my plonker and roleplaying as a crazy fam? hmm
