Lost SOTT Song Ok. Anyone else think that What Do U Want Me 2 Do is an ottake from that classic album? Of course it has obvious melodic DNA from The Ballad Of Dotty Parker, but the instrumentation and feel is pure 1987 Peach and Black. I haven't read anywhere that Prince recorded this song back in the day, but could it have been under a different title?
Needless to say, this song is my favorite so far from Musicology. It even sounded decent as a crappy streaming file on my computer speaks, but I gotta crank this bitch on the stereo. The album itself, in my opinion has lots of great numbers on it, but suffers from attention deficit. Make-good albums Chaos and Disorder and especially The Vault are much more cohesive offerings. Methinks Musicology might be all Vault material with updated lyrics (haven't been cigarrette billboards since the early '90s), and we may have a band album on the near horizon... remember the LA sessions a few months ago? Musicology is a solo effort for the most part. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I disagree. This is not a outtake from SOTT. I think this is Prince attempting to recreate a song in the style of Dorthy PArker. The outtakes for SOTT are Crystal Ball, The Ball, Joy in Repetition.

I'm aware of the known outtakes from the period prior to the release of Crystal Ball/SOTT. I just have this feeling that we have something really special here. And it smells very familiar. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

i don't think so... it just doesn't have the SOTT "feel" - whatever that means. it sounds contemporary. but that's just my gut talkin'.

Nawh, it's most likely a new song. He still has his LinnDrum and uses it from time to time, that's it.

No way man. I still say it's an old tune. Larry "accidently" spilled purple Kool Aid on the Linn back in '98 and wrecked it. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Sounds like an outtake from 'Rave' to me... [This message was edited Wed Apr 7 0:42:27 2004 by butter4yourmuffin]

There is no way this is from Sign. His vocals are too mature.

It could be from the SOTT era just re-worked. "I could never take the place of your man" was a left over demo from "Dirty Mind". Only Prince truly knows! "The little 1 will escort u 2 the places within ur mind"

Exactly, and also.. his ideas about marriage, ect.. are exactly what he has preached in recent songs... its a new jam yall.. just reflects a lot of older things like the rest of the album does..
