he's gorgeous without it, so why does he bother?

the thread with pics of prince started me wondering, does he wear makeup to create a certain 'prince' image so he won't be recognized on the street when he goes out?

is it something all stars do?

am i spending too much time here wondering about things that don't affect me?

Most entertainers wear make-up when they're on stage or on camera. Prince just took it to the next level.

ok. none of my beeswax anyway is it? but, i always thought he looked fine without it.

I always thought he wore makeup so of course 2 probably obtain a certain 'image' of him or eitha just 2 help him show up betta on camera/tv. But then again the media equipment 4 all of that should help him show up betta. Ah,who knows?(sides Prince himself) But he looks good with or without. I believe he even wears makeup on his 'off days'.

I agree with you though that he also looks plenty fine without it.

Well, Prince is starting to wrinkle around the eye area and he has dark circles under his eyes from not sleeping enough. So makeup does help in that regard..

He's created his trademark image in the 80s that's why.

He wears makeup because it makes him look better to other people. Sure he probably looks OK without it, but he looks better with it and he is a public performer, so he wants to look the best he can.

same reason any actor wear stage makeup, i'm figuring... so that people sitting far off can make out your features somewhat.

because looking perfect, and at your best , makes you face the world with much more confidence , plus it is part of the whole artistic idea that Prince has ... he wears make up like a glamorous woman would ...then let`s ask .why does he wear heels and so on ...???
he is just a glamorous man!!

As many have pointed out, most performers wear makeup on stage, just to show up better. P is unlike most performers, in that he doesn't leave his stage persona behind when the show is over. His music, his image and his performance are all such a part of him that they blend into his everyday life. If he didn't wear makeup offstage, it would be like leaving a part of himself behind (much in the same way that he almost always wears the same clothes out in public that he does on stage).

Because he wants to be daddies, naughty, little, girl.

I doubt I've ever seen him without make-up.

Bright light onstage are so strong, if you don't wear makeup, no one will be able to see you.

surprisingly enough, he didn't wear any makeup during his first soundcheck that NPGMC members were allowed to attend during the ONA tour. This was in Oakland, CA a few years back. he had no eyeliner, no foundation, no mascara, and his hair wasn't even curled....and he still looked beautiful.....different than on stage, but still beautiful.

He stood right next to me at the ONA soundcheck and I didn't detect any makeup either. He looked good.

I think its just a little out the ordinary for men to wear makeup and he would just wanna be a bit different . I think it looks pretty cool though I dont wear myself ,maybes a touch foundation if I has a blemish and when I was young I used to put a stripe across my face to try and be Adam Ant.

No, the real reason Prince wears makeup is because Little Richard is one of his influences. And we all know about Little Richard and his notorious use of eyeliner, lipstick, and blush. I guess our little hero wanted to add that Little Ricahrd style to his image when he was getting started.
