Prince & This Year's VMAs

Would you guys say that it's a foregone conclusion that he'll perform at this year's VMAs for MTV? I would think that with what's been going on, it would seem only fitting. With the 20th anniversary of Purple Rain PLUS a kick-ass new album, surely the execs at MTV are dying to have him perform. Ah.....but what would he perform....and with whom?

I'm thinking that he opens the show with something from Musicology (not the title track, but something else)....or, open that fucker with a funky, dance-inducing version of Sex Me, Sex Me Not. Then, at the conclusion of the show (with the announcer saying throughout the broadcast, "don't go anywhere, you won't want to miss an historic close to the show") Prince and the Revolution get together in honor of the 20th anniv. of PR to perform. Don't know what song(s) they would do, but I'd like to see this happen.

Just some random musings. Your thoughts?

The VMA's always latch onto what's hot at the moment, so it's not out of the question. A reunion with the Revolution is something that's not even worth speculating about. It's totally his call, and if he's gonna do it, he's gonna keep it under wraps until the moment it happens.

If school is truly in session - and, according to Prince it is - then what better place to teach class than at the VMAs. All of the non-singing, computer programming newbies will surely be in attendance or performing (read "lipsynching"), so he ought to do it.

you can bet he will definatley be asked to perform the VMA's without a doubt...
but he will be in Denver colorado on 08/27/04 ... till 9-11 the awards took place during the first week after labour day... since then they moved them to late august.. right now it seems like there may be some serious scheduling conflicts as to weather or not he will be able to perform,

in the event he does decide to perform, i wouldnt expect a revolution re-union at all... i could see him playing A million days.. which will be a pop radio hit by then or musicology.. or another collage of songs...

the only chance i think we will ever get of a revolution re-union is if Prince and the revolution is inducted into the hall of fame... and even then i'd be surprised if that woul dhappen.. and if he would perform... as cool as it would be, his new band destroys the revoltuion.

The truth has been spoken. I mean does the revolution even remember the words to his songs still? And you all know how perfect P wants things. He would have the revolution practing forever and ever if they were to perform with him, I doubt a reunion at the VMA's....although P is very sneaky and spontaneous, he may just surprise us...that is if he even performs there at all. biggrin
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

It's not out of the question that he could perform live via satellite from Denver or wherever he happens to be. Suppose MTV gives him lots of airtime between now and then. In the unlikely event that happens, he might be willing to do the show as a thank-you for helping promote his comeback. They definitely helped him first time around. I remember all the coverage of Purple Rain's premiere like it was yesterday.

A Revolution reunion for the show seems unlikely. If he decides to make that happen, surely he's smart enough to make it an event unto itself.
You better wake up, Stella. This is my town!

thats a good call.. i could see a supposed "live" satellite feed... and as i think about it i doubt there will ever be a revolution re-union but i would'nt be surprised to see a few members join him on stage, keeping his very solid and far superior current band to hold it down..

I dont know about the VMAs...but what would be even COOLER....

is if this year's MTV MOVIE AWARDS (which happens in June) would give a special tribute to PURPLE RAIN, being that its the movie's 20 year anniversary and all...
