Life Of The Party - a SIZZLING FUNK TRACK ...according to that Rolling Stone article.
Don't get me wrong, I'm really digging ALL the other tracks, and it's great (with a perverted, parallelity of the universe is now all fu*ked up, and a wiff of Armageddon kinda vibe) that the album has got such a nice write-up by RS....BUT, when I heard this I was cringing - Ronny Talk To Russia is MUCH better musically, in an anarchistic, punk-tinged don't give a fu*k sort of vibe...and its lyrics have have more context. Maybe this sizzling funk track is aimed at those kids who by evading natural selection had not bitten the bullet already after listing to NPS all the way through. But then again if we'd all never listened to Emancipation, would NPS still be considered creme de la creme of shiteness? When Rolling Stone start REZZING (opposite of dissing) a new Prince album this much then naturally I'm gonna I smell a rat! But when they claim Life Of the Party is a sizzling funk track...I just wanna burn all my P-funk collection - space-time continuum, is screwing with the funk super bad! ..... BULLSEYE!

I thought the same, but then I compared it to some of the older funk I have in my collection. Yeah...it's nice for a funk tune.
I still prefer the live version, however. Taureau said: ...according to that Rolling Stone article.

LoTP would be a good choice of single, I'm tellin you guys. Listen to the shit that's on the radio these days, and I can't see any reason why this song wouldn't do as well - probably even better - than those trite tunes (especially with a hot video). Anthony DeCurtis is well-respected in the industry, and his opinion does matter. Whether P chooses LoTP as a single or not, let's just hope that he makes sound decisions on which songs to pick as singles. The recent past leaves one a bit nervous, but then again he seems to be doing all the right things in promoting both this album and the tour.

It's finally growing on me! I almost had a car wreck the other night because the funk really got to me. I didn't like this song at all at first (the lyrics are cheesy). But then, I started to get it and really love the "bridge" of the song (..."my voice is getting higher and I ain't never had my nose done...."). I also really love Candy's vocals and the horns! Such a terrificly brilliant backing band all around!

Again, the guy who had the thread about putting Musicology trax into the perspective of another kinda helps me out in visualising this track as a hit.....but possibly. Like, if Kylie Minogue came out with it, maybe...it'll kinda make her seem hard and more funky yeah. Just to me it seems like Prince is clutching at the straws of a younger pop tart generation with this one. And that bit where he goes off all RAGGA MUFFIN.....ARRGAHGHGGHH! Makes me vom, but you know, you might just be right, could well be a hit! ..... BULLSEYE!

Life O' The Party is getting some airplay here in Denver and getting a good response too.

I think Life "O" The Party is one of his better uptempo tracks as of late. I can also appreciate the completely wrong manner the kick drum is recorded. Now, if there is one reason why Prince is back that kick drum alone would be it...

I like this song.
4 me it´s one of the best track from Musicology. It´s not that kind of "livebandsound" funk like 1+1+1, but it´s a kind of synthi-funk.Very dry and with less melodie. Put it in a good hifisystem, turn the volume a little bit louder - it´s cool.

4 those who cant dig "life o the party" ... f&^# all yall.." the song is growing on me.... but what is so funky about it? honestly? not really my opinion of funk. the piano isn't really holdin it down like i know prince can. he would have been better off developing that party where the song changes up. i might think differently if i hadn't heard his live version. it destroys this.

4 those who cant dig "life o the party" ... f&^# all yall.." No way did he name check a song he aint written yet! Or maybe he did? I don't know now... Hey I listed to it again and it's slowly becoming acceptable...kinda like a wart on some girls chin which don't matter if she has big bazookas (Dear Mr Man), nice round yet firm booty (Million Days) or a well manicured (Marrying Kind and that other one). Howmi get over those varicose veins though (Cinnamon Girl) I just don't know! Help a friend out! Oh wait, off topic. We're talkin warts here. ..... BULLSEYE!

i love that open hi-hat that lands one the 1, really sexy. Also those cheap synth horns that end the groove before he sings. Even his singing sounds urgent which adds tension.
The things i dont like is the piano plonking away that reminds me of the max and other crappy stuff in the early 90s. Also, the instrumental break because the horns are so predictable. Come on Prince , use some imagination. Its like he was reading the 'how to make a funky dance track' book and it said insert 'cheezy break here'. Good that he keeps the song generally simple but in these days of digital recording, it seems like a cut and paste job, with muting certain sections randomly, and it still feels unfinished or underproduced.
