Grammy Mileage & Other Musings

Isn't it amazing how much positive publicity he's gotten from a simple 6 minute performance on the Grammy's? A performance that to us, wasn't even all that spectacular in the first place. I know we've all seen him do much more amazing things than a medley of hits.

You cannot read an article about him or see interview with him without the Grammy's being mentioned. That's proof positive of the power of TV. To increase awareness of his tour and album he needs to keep that PR train going...in the coming year, I hope to see him continue his high-profile ways.

He should make sure he participates in all of the upcoming awards shows this year, such as the VMA's, AMA's and even next year's Grammy show. It wouldn't hurt to do SNL and especially an MTV special, such as Unplugged or VH1 Storytellers.

A big year in '04 could ensure hightened awareness of him for next couple of years, which to us, could mean more albums, videos and tours.

Isn't it a little surreal to see him on the video channels again? To see positive things written about him again that don't make mention of the name change? During the "slave" days I wasn't sure I'd ever see it again. I must admit, I'm happy for Prince these days. He deserves any accolades he gets. I'm also happy for all of us Prince fans who have perservered....you know what I'm talking about. It's almost like an "I told you so" to all of those who ridiculed him and ridiculed us for sticking by him.

I was talking with someone the other day about what an icon - a legend Prince is. Just think if we all had the opportunity to see Elvis Presley or John Lennon or Jimi Hendrix or Jim Morrison today? Those are all icons who's legend has grown beyond proportions since their death. Well, Prince fits right into that category - only he's still alive and doing it! Years from now, we may not fully appreciate the opportunity we have now, until it's too late.

Let's enjoy the ride!

Great post, my sentiments exactly.

I always felt he had a "Comeback" in him if he chose to put his efforts that way and that the mainstream would welcome him back. But as the late 90s early 00s went by it looked as if he would not take that route , being satisified to release stuff for his fans via website and playing small venues ,keeping a low public profile. Dont know how far back he had this planned for 2004 being his year to return , but I must say how amazing it is how things have fallen into place for him the past few months. Grammys, RNR Hall of Fame, Arena tours with sellouts of near sellouts every night, all the positive press, MTV playing him in heavy rotation. One has to wonder if even Prince is not surprised how smoothly its gone to this point.

Would you guys say that it's a foregone conclusion that he'll perform at this year's VMAs for MTV? I would think that with what's been going on, it would seem only fitting. With the 20th anniversary of Purple Rain PLUS a kick-ass new album, surely the execs at MTV are dying to have him perform. Ah.....but what would he perform....and with whom?

I'm thinking that he opens the show with something from Musicology (not the title track, but something else)....or, open that fucker with a funky, dance-inducing version of Sex Me, Sex Me Not (pretenders - Brittany, Madonna, others - are you listening). Then, at the conclusion of the show (with the announcer saying throughout the broadcast, "don't go anywhere, you won't want to miss an historic close to the show) Prince and the Revolution get together in honor of the 20th anniv. of PR to perform. Don't know what song(s) they would do.

Just some random musings.

I've always believed that! I don't think anyone will ever truly appreciate Prince's genius until he's long gone. I am always amazed at those (even those who claim to hate Prince) who will still see Prince as a talent. Love him or hate him, noone can deny his talent. Even my sister (8 years younger that me) ended up walking out of the room when the Kiss video came on. And even though she said that she liked the song, when P screamed at the end, she walked out like "he's crazy!" BUTTTTT... she STILL liked the song and liked it when P split or danced.
