Musicology review

http://www.pitchforkmedia...4-02.shtml

My kind of review; short, sweet and to the point

Prince: "Musicology"
The title track from Prince's next album wastes no time in: 1) showcasing Prince: he performs almost all the parts himself and is still the master of a hundred vocal overdubs that sound like a hundred different people; 2) showcasing his love of James Brown and Sly Stone: the groove is basically 50% "The Big Payback" and 50% "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)"; 3) name checking Earth, Wind & Fire, Chuck D, and Jam Master Jay, indicating that someone should really turn him onto slsk; and 4) showcasing Prince again: the song ends as he surfs a radio dial with every station playing his hits. Yet, it's still a decent new Prince song and acceptable funk in its own right. "Don't you hear this old school joint?!?" Yes, and I swear I won't touch your stereo. [Dominique Leone; April 2nd, 2004]
