Musicology as a song grows on you..

to me at least.. It was a gradual growth like all my favorite music is.. I totally disregarded this as a single, but now I can see why it was picked, it is not over produced, its got lush sound to it and its a song that pushes his music forward, even when he is reflecting..

I dig it..

i agree. i sing it all day, all the time. especially the line "let's groove, september. earth wind and fire. hot pants by james..."

this is a sweet song.

yeah live i thought what the hell was it, it sounded kinda jumbled, but i think that was because i was expecting Lets Go Crazy to be first, but it was a great intro to the whole show, nice smooth, old school, funky, fucky, and totally suave.
the song now on the album is soooo good,k the whole album is really good. but i think my faovirte song is Illusion Coma pimp and Circumstance. Life o The party is great too...shit the whole album is...

Well, I don't still think it was the best of choices as a single, but as a song it's genuinely positive - there's definitely an uplifting vibe to it. It works very well more as a thematic intro to the album and the whole "comeback" he is attempting right now.

A real chorus wouldn't have hurt though. But then again what funk classic has a chorus anyway?

Yeah, it's a big time grower for sure. It barely even registered when I first heard it at the Paisley Party back in July, and the first few times I heard it on the album I was tempted to skip it, but then it all of a sudden just clicked. It's still not a favorite of mine, but there really is a lot to like about it.

it has definitely grown on me as I did not like the song at all when I first heard it

it was his INCREDIBLE version on the Jay Leno show that got me hooked

I didn't like it either! Then too, I taped it (2nd time...subliminally not the 1st time), didn't watch it for ages cuz I done fought the good fight for Prince, and still do (also cuz I knew I was going to opening night and would probably end u luvin it...plus he looked so dang GOOD!) I'm 35 now, grew up in LA (South Central) and went to college in Hartford, CT. When I found out LoveSexy was coming to town, I lost my crap...only one friend went with me and she is down w/me forever.

Anyway, I stood up for Prince during Soft & Wet (I'd hear, "that's a man? he's a fag!" and here i am, "no he's not...he's cooool")....and am still to this day.

One portion at the end that I hadn't heard was the "Cool" like synths! Priceless. Plus hearing Sexy MF this weekend reminded me what a booty shaker Musicology is...it's tight y'all.

And the next song! PURRRFECT. P has ALWAYS made music to "shake 'dat ass, shake 'dat ass"...as he's been doin' for 20+ years y'all. Over that time lots of songs have "grown" on me...then there are a few that, I just cain't get with, and I love him for that too. That's how complete he is.

Musicology is bumpin...heard it on KJLH today in L.A. I ain't heard Prince on KJLH for a long time...except for the love grooves when Adore shows up a lot. On the Couch g'on be there too.

Peace

In a couple of months, it may be your fave. This is why I love Prince so much! You never know what mood/moment you will suddenly snap and go, "OOOOHHHH, that's the groove I was supposed to get -- better yet, the groove that was supposed to get me.)

Mountains was like that for me. Still Would Stand All Time too (was way too into NPG, MC, TITT <--nah he didn't, Tambourine...). "Still" is definitely one of my faves.

The Ladder is nice...though must admit I thought it contrived. Maybe I was putting my own situation too close. P has a way of doing that for/with/to me. Then again, he's very sentimental and that's one reason I love him...plus backed by that awesome guitar in Temptation (voice too...I kept rewinding that song on my walkman on the bus...and marveled at his geetar!)

Elephants & Flowers is like that too...same beat as Mountains, but the lyric, "Strip down" just the way he says it.

Kinda like the way he sings, "...but she wouldn't daance" sorta brit like. Then at the end, "Let's Jam!"

We are too blessed.

i think that not only musicology but the cd as a whole is like that. sure pimp takes you in pretty early but the rest of the cd just becomes more layered and densy with each listen. When i first listened to musicology i was kinda like "okay nothing great nothing fancy just him singing and playing having a lil fun", though i thought and still do that most tracks are rather short and need some stretching. But the more i listen to it and not constantly just on ramdom with the other 500 songs i have on the jukebox, im finding myself going "Oh this is the new prince one, cool." and jamming a bit.

Who knows maybe the lil man does know how to get the mainsteam back into him, make a cd that gets better with each listen then give it away for free and then sit back and watch the listeners calling radio and asking for this track or that track. lol could be a lot of fun.

sorry for wasting your time

Same here. I actually thought the song was o.k. after seeing a bit of the video on Tavis. The Leno performance was awesome. The added horns gave it that extra punch. wink That Leno version is fun to watch.
