Its called Dynomite from Fontalicious Fonts. Here's my Musicology mock-up... This is on a proper, complete and utter retro tip. I just thought, why not take a picture out of the equation altogether? Thanks for the info . . . gonna try to find that font . . .

BinaryJustin: The font I was asking about is the one on your CD cover (with Prince in red). Is that the name you gave me?

Is there a back to match the retro cover? If so, please post it -- looks great!

It was a bit of a rush-job. I just envisaged the back being like the front - except having Side A and Side B written on either side of the disc. It'd look good as a Digipack with one of those vinyl textured CDs inside.

BinaryJustin, you should be designing cover art for Prince...and the rest of the musical community too, as far as I'm concerned.
I LOOOOVE your Musicology cover. LOVE IT. The color of the label really needs to be purple though, don'tcha think? No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Hmmm... But scarlet red just seems more standard and retro. Prince should hire Mondino again the next time he needs a cover doing properly!

Binary Justin, your cover is dead on! I can't say enough about how great it is!!
I'm firmly planted in denial

Its intentionally kitsch. Yeah I understand Kitsch. This is just straight up tacky. Very inappropriate packaging for the content. If it was some Monkee's song it would be perfect.

I dont understand why the intro add to NPGMC isnt extended into the packaging of the CD. I'm talking about the right hand side of the ad with the record spinning. The Musicology vid has a perfect feel and look also. It seems like common sense to apply that look to everything that is "Musicology".

But parker, look at the fonts used on NPG releases and you'll know tacky! No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Eh, I still think they nailed the look with the flash ad, and the Musiclogy video. The official artwork out there already is SO much more appropriate for the release (even though its not that good either) than that 45 sleeve.

Musiclogy cover:
The Prince pic is perfect. Loose the vines, and the loose the title. Title is only necessary on the spine of the CD. The title on the spine needs a classic font, or classic looking font. This is were the flash ad on NPGMC nailed it. The font used for the 45 spinning on the platter is perfect. If the title on the front is a must, the same typeface would work well. Above all, Princes pic DEFINETLY NEEDS to be on the cover. Youre all making the cover SO complicated with all these scenes of things happening. _ [This message was edited Mon Apr 5 23:07:55 2004 by parker]

BINARY JUSTIN, I am in complete awe of those cover art images. I truly hope the PPs over at NPGMC.com do poke around over here, because they need to see your amazing work. Looking at this stuff makes me excited about the music, and that's what Musicology needs. Not only is it really cool to look at, but it shows a real love for the artist and a connection to the music. Kudos!!!

WTF! I'm a missing something here?!? That 45 sleeve is 100X worse than the current artwork for Musicology.
WTF! I'm sorry but anybody who can dis the current artwork for Musicology and then say that they think the 45 design is good, or even awe inspiring?!! OMG I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. _ [This message was edited Mon Apr 5 23:15:25 2004 by parker]

Man...I seriously hope that Amazon cover isn't the final product. They should have just kept the cover without any thorny vines or lettering. Simple Helvetica lettering on the spine. The photo with the raked shadow dramatically says it all...all the things you know about Prince, that look in his eyes.

Don't worry if you don't get it, it's just another one of those insular hipper-than-thou designer statements, hijacking the client's product for the sake of making the designer feel validated. [This message was edited Mon Apr 5 23:21:34 2004 by S3V3N]

Hey man, I'm just saying I liked what I see is all. Maybe I should take some design courses so I can appreciate things a little mo' better, cuz clearly I'm not seeing what I'm sposta should.

Have you tried looking at it through the Wonder Mask?

BinaryJustin drew: They should hire you. That's the type of an album I'd like to buy from the record store. I don't know, I'm starting to think Prince is letting Mani to do the covers. "You know, my ex-missus was the dancer - if you can't do even that, at least do the cover art!"

Have you tried looking at it through the Wonder Mask? I think looking at it through The Wondermask was the problem. Everything is brilliant through the eyes of The Wondermask.

Its only a mock-up. I'm not a professional anything - I work in the offices of a gas company! I personally think that an old record sleeve design conjures up the concept of "old school" better than depicting Prince in an old school. Anyway - Where's your effort?
