musicology (the track) - a great tribute ! just listening to musicology for who knows what time, having just recorded it thanx to this link
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radi...oundtable# You can skip the first 10 minutes, and it gets you RIGHT to Musicology. Which is nice. i think it is a great song and it is really working on me. it has been a long time since I've had this feeling about new prince material. it sounds very tight and fresh. the vocal too. besides it is a wonderful tribute to MUSIC. honouring the true masters of good and innovative music is a very cool and positive act, just think of Stevie Wonders fantastic SIR DUKE on the splendid SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE. music is after all what music is all about, and coming down to that point and creating a funky and strong titlesong about that is a phat thing to do ! I can't wait to hear the rest of this album. i think this song sounds soooo much better and very well-produced than the titletrack of RAVE or other comparisons I've read about on this side. I think it sounds more well-arranged than the work and just as cool as sexy MF - more mature than that track anyway ! well-done Prince !

I think that the track is more of a tribute to Prince! He may namecheck other artists but its as if he's saying that he's as good as they are or he's in a position to comment (whereas others may not be).
The thing I like about the track more than anything else is the synth horns. I missed the synth horns for sooooo long.

i agree, those horns sound good. didn't feel 'em at the beginning though, but now I hear 'em.
the guitar riff is cool too, a two-note instant datdat, datdatdatdat, monotonous, but very good. think of the cardigans my favorite game, not that it sounds like that at all. just remember the guitar riff - also just two notes. dosen't take that much to play great guitar after all
