I've been listening to Musicology and The Chocolate Invasion non-stop, and I decided it was time to use my old NPGMC mp3s to burn the Slaughterhouse album. I was listening to it on the way to work this morning (my 'new' car has an awesome sound system - possibly the best system I have), and it hit me.

Now I know that the people here who are into rap/hip-hop will probably disagree with me, but this album is the furthest Prince will ever go in making a full rap/hip-hop record.

And the sequencing works well. After years of playing around with the NPGMC tracks, I've been pleasantly surprised by how cohesive both The Chocolate Invasion and The Slaughterhouse sound.

Thoughts on this?

Prince and hip-hop, it's like ice-cream and battery-acid.

I think it's too much of a grab-bag to be considered a proper "album". Where TCI gets away
with it -slightly-, "Slaughterhouse" just doesn't cut it as a decent album.

The tracks are cool enough, but compared to some of his other albums [take, for instance,
the monolithical rock of cohesiveness, organic flow and experimental toure de force that is
"The Rainbowchildren] it lacks a fluid movement that's strong enough to carry the weight of
the songs into an "album" modus.



Anywho. I do like "The Chocolate Invasion" as an album this way. Although, as always, I'm
tempted to add songs to it

i like the Slaughterhouse alot as an album.

It has a very Black Album feel to me.

For those who downloaded Slaughter..Is it any different than songs we already have? I downloaded TCI and I enjoy that. Love the sound improvements and music adjustments. Any info?

i am really digging the Slaughterhouse. For some reason the songs sound so much better than before in this context, as a full album. I never really cared for any of these songs before, but now - listening to them together as a full CD - they are clicking somehow. I don't know why. But it's good stuff. Very funky. A funky little nasty underground record, like the black album for modern times without the language. Me likes.
