Musicology is WAAAAAYYY better than NPS (of course, flesh eating bacteria is more enjoyable than NPS). No, Musicology is not one of his greater albums, but it is a fairly solid effort. NPS was a tepid album of sub-standard filler tracks, utterly lacking any sense of true funk.

The 2 albums are so unbelievably different. I didn't hate NPS as much as others when it came out, thought it a nice little Parliament tribute. But, really, that's all it was, and I never have any urge to hear it a few years later (although his recent performances of "The One" have me tempted ) On the other hand, I played Musicology at a BBQ last weekend, to a crowd who couldn't name a song after "Most Beautiful Girl." I think at least three people cam up and said something to the effect of "Is this Prince? Oh my god, it's good. I have to get it." I was surprised, cuz I had been kind of thinking it was just a good Prince set for real fans, but apparently people are liking the new sound. And it is a new sound, kind of fusion of all his past sounds.

Well, what do you know...I woke up this morning, put on the Musicology CD and...wow...it sounded great!! It finally grew on me...much the same that NPS did to me a few years back...and that, to me, is a good thing!!
