I like the tracks taken seperately but somehow it doesn't quite work for me "on the whole".... Lack of coherence perhaps. I pretty much feel the same towards the Prince album.
Anyway the rave In2 is much, much better except for the techno version of the title track (I so love the original). All this is my opinion of course. I said this then .
I am saying this now . Rave was a hit album that got lost in the mix with the Clive Davis coup at Arista. It that had not happened then Rave would be dripping off everyone's lips as the best post 80's Prince music. People said the same things about The Gold Experence album that is said about Rave.Mainly when videos, rave reviews, and people posting positive threads appear an album becomes "great" or "horrible". Listen to all of the hype about Musicology . If the album does not sell or chart well the same bullshit that was said about Rave will be said about Musicology. If you like it it is a great album .

I agree rave could have done better.. especially with some better promotion...
the greatest romance ever sold was a really weak first single too... i always felt the first single should have been pretty man... the right video for that would have been exactly what people want form prince...

i most definitely agree with you on the sequencing of the records.
lately they're just so badly sequenced. why would you ever put that damn "illusion" song after "musicology"?! anything else would've made better sense.

Except for Life o' the Party of course. But I guess it's just fine where it is, since it really wouldn't work ANYWHERE on the album, it's so bad.
