My Musicology CD is Hot - Answer to Musicology Double Disc

I saw the rumor about Musicology being a double album and that on the 20th a different CD will be released by Sony. First I doubt this true at all. Why would P make more music available to people outside his fan club? Juts doesn’t sound right

That being said I could see how that would be possible. The Chocolate Invasion is a really strong collection. Many versions of the songs had previously been available via download at the NPG site. But apparently many of them have been reworked and sound absolutely fantastic on my system!

I download both Musicology and the Chocolate Invasion and burned their strongest songs to CD. Perhaps Sony and Prince may have been thinking the same? Like I said because of the material it’s possible. The songs are that strong. But I just don't think P would do it

In any case her is the track listing for my version of Musicology. Man it’s hot!

Musicology/Chocolate Invasion:

1) Judas Smile - and absolutely smokin cut that would put P on many RB/Hip Hop/Pop formats. Not to mention the big city clubs. There is a section where P raps that I think doesn't work but the rest of track is just so strong.

2) Musicology - This tune is hot and every one of my hip hop head friends says this is the record that will introduce P to those who don't get him. This is a great re-introduction song for Prince to say hey ya'll here I come!!!

3) VaVoom - One of my favorite songs. Its funky, new wavy, meets garage rock type vibe is just classic Prince. Its an updated better more masculine version of Cream. That song would be a hot video and would get much play and exposure on many POP formats

4) Life 'o' the Party - Not my favorite but the keyboards/horns get me every time. Clearly a party song and Prince writes these almost effortlessly

5) Call My Name - Is another classic Prince song. Great Great RB slow jam. Not overtly sexual which is all part of Ps evolution in writing these kinds of songs. Just a great great song

6) Super Cute - really like Ps vocal on this although I think the chorus might be a bit too loud again its just a strong strong song

7) What Do You Want Me to Do - Again just a another strong song from P. His ability to tell a story has always been strength. Little Red corvette, Joy in Repitition, Raspberry Beret, the ballad of Dorothy Parker as examples of this. This song may not be as strong as those but its just the kind of song that no one else can and will do. And P just does it so well

8) Underneath the Cream - Wow "I want to be underneath the cream somewhere in between your thighs" This is a great sexy little rb/pop number. Very pretty song

9) The Marrying Kind - Another funk Rocker...it had to grow on me after about the third listen but now I'm playing air guitar and singing the chorus

10) If I Was the Man In Your Life - hit record any time any year period no need to even discuss it. My only complaint is that its too short!

11) The couch - Wow! Prince has that gospel sound nailed. We haven't heard it much lately but its back and strong here. Its also funny lyrically and of course the lyrics are not gospel inspired which is the controversy which is Prince. I love him for it!

12) Sex/Sexmenot - Hot hot dance record. The keyboards and beats of this song as serious workouts

13) Cinnamon Girl - Pop songs all the way. Kinda of girly and cute but P makes those things work for him. The message of the song is a serious one. It definitely deserves a listen or 2 or 3 or 4. Not my favorite though. VaVoom is much stronger in my opinion. They are similar type of records.

14) The Dance a nice little ballad. Sometimes (and this is my opinion just like all of this) I think P goes overboard with his falsetto. The song is strong and I think it deserves a strong vocal. He would have been wise to sing it in a lower register. It would given the song a much stronger body

15) Gamillah - Is strong beautiful instrumental. Likely from some the Emancipation sessions. It works.

16) U Make My Sunshine - another gospel tinged song with love song lyrics. Good good song. His vocal is strong but raspy. Angie Stone lends a hand and totally balances Princes voice. The song is also about 3 and a half minutes longer than the download from a couple of years ago.

17) Reflection - Still trying to get into this tune. Not one of my favorites

18) Dr Mr. Man - a cool social commentary song. Again not my favorite but still a strong effort and P is talkin about something which is always good! He knows whats going in the world

These songs sound so good as My Musicology CD

One other thing. I left of Pimp & Circumstance and A Million Days from the Original Musicology because I think both songs are poor efforts and have been done over and over by P poorly. Pimp & Circumstance is no Days of Wild!! Ya heard

I also left When I lay my hands, and High off from The Chocolate Invasion CD. High is just a bad song and When I lay my hands is one of those experimental records from P tat he gets an A for effort on but just doesn't work for me

Totally agree with you about "High." Uggh, that was reason enough there for him to scrap that album. But you don't like When I Lay My Hands?? I love that track, would have fit in in nicely on Musicology.

I was thinking the same thing about the HIGH tracks, but we have them now, this would have been cool if those trax we're never released. trax like Va Va Voom, The Daisy Chain,Supercute, & My Medallion would have fit perfectly with the rest of the MUSICOLOGY joints. Now that we have those trax we'll have 2 make our own mixes. Now I hope we get our wish with other great funk/rock songs to made MUSICOLOGY a 2 cd set.
Don't u want to come , 3121. It's gonna be so much fun, 3121. That's where the party be, 3121. Y'all can come if u want to, but u can never leave!

ur picks for the songs that should appear r horrible,

Sex Me, Sex Me Not...
Supercute
Judas Smile?

good lawd....

its not unsual on this forumn for people not into club or dance music not to like Sex me or Judas. Your reply doesn't suprise me. Super Cute is another rb or black flavored song so again your response does not suprise me. You also probably think "A Million Days" is agreat record

I of course think its incredibly boring and particularlly awful....its chat board dude lighten up!
