Why was there a 70 year old couple at mondays satellite concert?

The answer comes in 2 words:
PURPLE RAIN

That song has crossed over into different generations/cultures/music lovers.

That song will forever be Prince's signature song. Not all artists can say they have a signature song.
The fans on here should stop bashing the Purple Rain era/album/song and appreciate it for what it is. It's a musical masterpiece that will never be duplicated by a great musician.

'tis overkill. plus other musicians have their own purple rains, of sorts, in their repertoires as well.

Methinks they were lost. They thought they were gonna see Dawn of the Dead and hated Prince because there were no zombies.

my point exactly....some (not all) artist have their signature song (stones-satisfaction, zeppling-Stairway,)...so we shouldn't see that as a bad thing. Purple Rain is the only reason I can have a prince jam of the year concert promo poster in my office at work and not one person has said "who the hell is that"....u mention purple rain and they say "oh ok...i like some of his music". My mom even likes purple rain so that alone is reason to stop bashin it!

shocked 70??? Dayum, surprised they stayed up that long...

That's not as bad as some of the dumb-ass folks in our cinema...
bringing their school aged kids to the show...i'm talking 9-10 year olds...
on a school night! no no no!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Ya know, I noticed at the simulcast here in Columbus that there were quite a few older people. Lots of kids too. It was beautiful to see. wink

that doesn't seem so strange to me. if they were 70, they were only 50 when Purple Rain was released - only a few years older than P is now.

hey, i personally think it'd be worth it to take your kids to see the show, sleeping through a day of school's not gonna be that harmful to them. hell, i did it, and made up all the work i missed this week biggrin

Yeah here in Baltimore as well.

My Grandmother had a thing for Prince as well. Back in 1991 before she passed away she went and bought me a CD version of "LoveSexy". I was trying to change all my tapes/Albums to CD format and I told her I needed a couple of Prince CD's. I asked her what made her pick the "Lovesexy" CD over all the others and she said in so many words that she just loved the fact that he was all naked on the cover. She was 64.

who says it was purple rain that made them fans? if they were indeed in their 70's, perhaps they liked prince from the start back in '78. they would have only been in their 40's back then. prince killed it with those ballads. gramps probably popped some viagra and got him self some nani after the show. i hope i'm having that kinda fun into my 70's.

My mom is 71 and I asked her to attend a Musicology show with me and she agreed. She is quite excited. I think she is also curious to see what Prince is all about being that it was her money back when I was a kid that I used to buy most Prince LP's and cassettes with. She even told me recently that she thought that one day that I would outgrow Prince. I'm like, NO NEVER EVER!!!! She has come to accept that I will forever dig Prince and his music. She is even going to stand in line with me in the morning so, I can get tickets to the Memphis show.

My grandmama, Lord rest her soul, made me a Prince fan! She was the first one to take me to go see Purple Rain at the twin theater on Elvis Presley Blvd. in Memphis, TN. I was hooked after that.

And she made fun of him a lot, but LOVED "Cream."

Anxiety

There were a few kids at the Lincolnshire, IL screening too...but everyone in our theater was well behaved, or else I was so excited I just did a damn good job of blocking everyone else out...
