Why Not Give TRC or a ONA live disc away instead of Musicology? Although I like Musicology, to me it pales in comparison to TRC as far as being innovative and/or groundbreaking. If the underlying theme of the tour is to bring back the joy of live musicianship, then why not give away to the masses a tour de force cd, one that makes your jaw drop (even if you didn't necessarily agree with the message)? He's already made his money off of TRC and it proved to be quite lucrative, especially if factored in with ONA tour behind it. If either of these were given to the masses, I think he would retain more of the fans that are coming out to see him do his hits.

wouldn't make much sense to give away old material, when he's also incorporating stuff from his new album on this tour. it kinna defeats the purpose.

Because the TRC/ONA tour was like two years ago?

yeah, but how many people actually even heard either one (aside from peeps who frequent the Org)? The Piano medley from ONA would have been a good idea--mostly songs even the most casual fan would know. I like Musicology, don't get wrong but i'm not hearing the " live musician" part of it. It's a good cd, no doubt, but even The Gold Experience had a "live" feel to it...drums and guitars and things of the such. you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

Everything about "Musicology" is about laying the groundwork for the years to come, not the past, or EVEN "Musicology" itself, really. It's a set-up for the next albums, "Musicology" is about getting himself in the public-conciousness again. "Musicology" won't be a hit retail album, but serves as a kick-start for the next album.A lot of you are going to be disappointed in a month that "Musicology" isn't burning up the charts- & you'll be missing the point! Reflection has been around the block for awhile too, but here it is a on a cd of "new" music. What's "old" to one person might be brand spanking "new" to 30 others...especially looking at the positive responses he go t on Leno when he did "The Work" and "Ballad of Dorothy Parker". Like I said, I like Musicology as a whole, but had I actually "paid" for it (yeah yeah..it was in the price of the theater ticket), I might have been a little salty, after hearing him "flesh" out some songs out over the last few years. I know on the JOTY tour when he was selling JOTY/Face Down cassettes, that shit was and still is da bomb. Show the people what you working with. you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

And the ratings still sucked? " 2004 is "Musicology Time!!"- Prince

I think that the rainbow children would put alot off his music even though I love trc .I think Musicology is more radio friendly and will get people thinking about buying new Prince releases
lets face it that darth vader voice is enough 2 put most casual listeners off the Rainbow Children

I thought the idea behind the giveaway was that it would generate word of mouth and stimulate sales of the disc. Whether this pans out remains to be seen.

This makes sense. He has released so much material that far surpassed the hits he's best known for, even though nobody except us heard it. Now he's engaged in a full-on media assault designed to get him the recognition he deserves after years of toiling in semi-obscurity. You better wake up, Stella. This is my town!
