I AM NOT A HATER...... BUT!

I like Musicology,.....But! I still like the old Prince style much more! I know! "stop living in the past." My question to you is, why doesn't Prince ever go back to his old style of music every once in a while? ( The Minneapolis sound).
Yes its already been done! But this has already been done too!

1. Musicology - The work, sexy MF
2. A million days - Dolfin
3. Life of the pary - Now
4. Call my name - Friend lover sister mother wife
5. Cinnamon girl - Holy River
6. What do you want me to do - the ballad of Dorothy Parker
7. The marying kind - Three chains of gold
8. On the couch - How does it feel (De Angelo)
9. Reflections - Sweet baby

Can't think of a twin for ICP&C, IIWTMIYL, and Dear Mr. Man ( CAN YOU?)

Yeah, right. "Reflection" is the exact copy of "Sweet Baby"! Even their mothers couldn't tell them apart! Obviously there is no point for Prince to make any new music, like ever again.

Right on with everything except "Call My Name"--it's more of am "Extraordinary". As for the others: ICP&C: Supercute (Just sped up), IIWTMIYL: Strays of the World, Dear Mr. Man: Money Don'T MAtter 2nite, Sign of the Times, and Dark all rolled into 1. wink
I wish u heaven

Yes, "Musicology" is the sound of "FrankenPrince" - music stitched together from familiar elements from his back catalogue - everything you loved about him served up on a silver platter. Dig it!

Still, it's better than SNOOZE and Rave Undoo-doo
There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Are these pre-recorded songs from his past collection?
If so, why the hell didn't he leave "life of the party" where it was?
That song is garbage!

You could do this with many a Prince song, but does it really mean anything?

DMSR-Let's Work
International Lover-Do Me, Baby
I could Never take the Place of your man-When U were mine

Who cares?

1. Musicology - A musically superior version of Sexy MF and The Work. However, this time Prince has created a song that is uniquely his and truly lives up to his legacy.
2. A million days - Dolphin meets 3 Chains O Gold, meets Little Red Corvette, all tied up in a nice commercially acceptable package - brilliant!
3. Life of the pary - Doesn't sound anything like 'Now'. If anything, it's a nice, uplifting party song that's slightly akin to Horny Pony.
4. Call my name - Saviour, meets Adore, meets Insatiable.
5. Cinnamon girl - shares the same musical vibe as The Holy River, but is more of a short n sweet soft rock song.
6. What do you want me to do - finally re-creates the glorious sound of the ballad of Dorothy Parker but still remains a totally different musical experience.
7. The marrying kind - re-creates one of the parts of 3 chains of gold, but presents it in a more acceptable way that doesn't rely on the over-dramatic. And there's hints of Into The Light, as well.
8. On the couch - sounds akin to How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore? Thank goodness Prince has finally allowed a song of this style to appear on one of his albums, rather than hide it away as a B-side.
9. Reflections - Sweet baby sounds nothing like this song. This song sounds like something from the One Nite Alone piano CD and is truly beautiful, both musically and lyrically.

Illusion, Coma, Pimp and Circumstance has a similar vibe to 'Sex', the song that was on the Scandalous Sex Suite. However, this time, the song is truly wonderful, rather than just a repetitive jam.

If Eye Was The Man In Your Life combines the stop-start joy of Alphabet Street and the pompous rock of Strays Of The World. And a little hint of Last December, too.

As for Dear Mr. Man... Musically, it sounds like a slowed-down version of Horny Pony (again, the Horny Pony reference). Honestly, try it and I promise you, you'll see what I mean. However, this song is a direction that Prince hasn't tried to date. It's a political statement, but thankfully it doesn't sound tacky (Money Don't Matter 2nite) and manages to create a genuine sense of despair.

Okay, it's very easy to compare new Prince songs to old Prince songs, but ultimately - do you seriously expect him to come up with something musically surprising every single time???

Prince is full of surprises - sometimes releasing instrumental albums, sometimes going for the full commercial success, sometimes going for jazz, sometimes not releasing anything, etc. etc. etc.

But even with Prince's musical genius, he ain't going to be capable of coming up with endless permutations of innovative ways of presenting music!

'Musicology' is Prince showing off his various musical skills. And let's face it, there ain't an artist alive today who could even come close to mirroring his talent. Prince truly is something else. His musical skills piss on just about everybody else from a great height!

He can re-create any style of music and make it uniquely his. There's no-one else alive or dead that can do that, so ner!

As an aside, have you ever realised just how alike 'When Doves Cry' and 'Thieves In The Temple' are?

Honestly, take a really good listen to the two songs with my comparison in mind - it's amazing just how alike those two tunes are.

Although I agree with most of what you said, I think your missing my point.
I like all Prince styles. However I like the older, funkier stuff more.
I once heard him say that he doesn't do that style anymore because it's been done.
But the new stuff has been done too!
All I ask is that he tosses one in every once in a while.
There is a song where he keeps screaming "ice cream". (Funky as doo doo!)
I'd like to hear something like that on a new album. (Soul Psych. or something like that).

I guess it can't hurt to wish and long for the familiar, but you know that's not what he's about. Just enjoy the CDs that you love now and count on loving others in the future. His shit is usually about 5 years ahead of our tastes anyway.
