IWONDER WHAT PAUL MCCARTNEY THINKS OF HIS MUSICOLOGY CD? i wonder what ole paul mccartney thinks of his musicology cd?...i remember he was on some tv programme and he chose his 10 favourite songs and the only one he picked that wasn't from the 50's and 60's was little red corvette which i thought was a huge compliment to prince...i think he said that prince was a true original.

I cant imagine for 1 minute, Sir Paul (!) being floored by Musicology, especially as he picked Little Red Corvette as his choice of all the Prince material.
Besides, who cares what McCartney thinks, his stuff hasnt been too great over the last 20 years either!

I suspect he would consider 'On the Couch' a great performance and, by stretching out the format to suit the anguish and frustration expressed in the lyrics, a clever variation in the blues gospel tradition.
It's the sort of thing (and I'm not trying to draw too many comparisons) that McCartney tried on 'Call me Back Again.' He's also long been a fan of Stevie Wonder (there are many references including the braille message imprinted on the original sleeve of 'Red Rose Speedway') and I guess he'd possibly like the combination of the weaving funk accompaniment with the social-conscience lyrics in 'Dear Mr. Man'. Who knows? . [This message was edited Fri Apr 2 2:56:04 2004 by langebleu] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I think your comment is ignorant- "Flaming Pie" by Paul McCartney was a beautiful album, lovely lyrics, melodies, and acoustical work. You wouldn't make that ignorant comment if you heard this album. Prince's equivalant was "The Truth", and "Flaming Pie" is a superior work, by a superior songwriter. "Paul Is Live", "Tripping The Live Fantastic", and even "Unplugged" are superior and more satisfying live recordings to "One Nite Alone-Live!"- crystal clear sound, less overdubbing, and the songs people want to hear. If you heard these albums you wouldn't make such an ignorant remark.

flaming pie was great...
i think its funny how people on here think just cause there are no hit songs on an album that it sucks...

i wonder what The Frog Chorus thinks of it . Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I agree with the comments on Flaming Pie - it is my favorite of all McCartney's albums (at least most of the time - McCartney, Ram and Band On The Run are also great, as are his 'oldies' albums Run Devil Run and The Russian Album - oh, and London Town and Wings At The Speed Of Sound are great too, as is Wings Wildlife).
Oh, and I'd love to see Prince record an album like McCartney's Unplugged. The Truth has way too many overdubs and electric instruments to be considered truly acoustic. Regardless, I think Paul has some great respect for Prince - he even mentions him in the liner notes of Flaming Pie. I forget which song was written in Minneapolis, but he mentions that MPLS is "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince's town" or somesuch. I was listening to London Town this morning, and the first line is something about walking along the street on a "purple morning" - of course, this album was from 1978, but an interesting coincidence (or fate) nonetheless...
