Must be Ray Darcy or Phil Cawley cos they're the only 2 daytime dj's on today fm. Now if it was Tom Dunne (Pet Sounds 7-9pm Check it out!) I wouldn't be surprised because he has good taste in music, but I've never heard either Ray or Phil play anything by Prince. Of course it could just be the $ony factor, I don't think today fm are beyond accepting 'donations' in return for heavy rotation.

This is great - an Irish thread! I feel all warm and fuzzy inside! lol
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

I think it's Ian Dempsey who is the closet Prince fan. Ever since the alarm clock radio went off one morning back in the day and he was playing "Everywhere" from the Rainbow Children. And he got pretty hyped about the concert back at the tail end of '02 was it?

Tom Dunne plays some fun stuff but when it comes to da funk - Sir Nose D Void if you know what I'm sayin' smile

Ian is that you with the Fritos bag. Long long long time no see my man.

Damn this intro to Cinnamon Girl be hot .....

Ray darcy is a BIG Prince fan, always gives him props and plays a lot of his stuff!
Tom Dunne is not a fan, and Ian Dempsey plays what he is told! He's played Musicology 3 days running now!

Well, you're right there, I don't think Ian Dempsey has any choice about what he plays. The breakfast show is their most listened to slot so I reckon everything you hear on it has bought it's way onto the playlist. Well, I guess it's a good sign that Sony are doing a proper job of promoting the single, seeing as they're targeting breakfast shows.

I am surprised Ray Darcy is a Prince fan of any description, I used to listen to him quite alot and I've never heard him even mention Prince, then again I haven't listened to his show in months.

As for Tom Dunne, I'm disappointed. I would have expected him to appreciate the creativity of Prince's music enough to make him a fan. Fan or no, he does occasionally play Prince.

As for me, I haven't even heard musicology properly yet (I've seen the performance on the Tonight show once, so that's not enough to form an opinion on it).
I guess I should start listening to the breakfast show, but that would mean missing my morning snooze on the train, so that's not going to happen. zzz

I worked with RAY DARCY recently and he ain't no fan but he respects Prince. Tom Dunne played a track Prince did with George Clinton a few times, maybe two years back and as for Ian Dempsey....he does what Momma tells him.

BTW how many Irish members are there on the ORG? and how many shat their pants when he kicked into Calhoun SQ in Spirit????? nuts

That was probably We Can Funk (from Graffiti Bridge) that Tom Dunne played.

Irish Orgers : You (assuming you're Irish), me, colm, niallmcq, ian, and TheChief. So that makes six of us! I'm sure there must be a few more though. biggrin

Where is Spirit? That's not the Spirit Store in Dundalk you're on about is it ?

Ah there's loads of Irish Orgers around actually, dozens anyway. When I was more active on the site and moderating etc, I came across loads of em! And plenty more fans that aren't on the Org of course. I'm from Dublin myself, but I'm currently living in Scotland. I pop back to Dublin a lot though, so we should get do an Org Meetup one of these days.

Asylum - by "Spirit" I assume they meant the aftershow last time Prince was in Dublin. Actually, I didn't make it to that one - I went to the London gig instead actually, and the London Marquee Club (or whatever it was called) aftershow.

Shit, Niall - how the hell are ya!?

Yeah Spirit Nightclub on Abbey Street. Aftershow ONA. It wasn't We Can Funk either it was something else. George Clinton was on the show and said that this song was to be released as a single but it never came about. Pity, it was pretty funky, not single material mind.

The track is called "Paradigm" and was sold at Funkadelic gigs a few years ago. I picked up a copy at the legendary Red Box gig in Dublin a then. Its ok.....

Yeah that one was for the diehards. My favourite that night was "A Love Bizarre" - hadn't heard it in years. And where else would you get a crowd that would sing the whole chorus of "Dolphin"!!!

Dave Fanning (Ireland's most influential and respected DJ for those that don't know) reviewed Musicology along with other new single releases on Tuesday. It got a very positive reaction from Fanning, his 2 guests, and some listeners texting in. They all digged it and were very suprised, as none of them, even Fanning, knew what Prince had been doing the past 5-6 years.

I thought it was interesting to hear Fanning talk about Prince - he said that he was quite late in getting into Prince, he kinda missed the first 5 years of the 80's but was really into Parade and SOTT. He then stopped following Prince in the 90's though because the 5 CD funk workout internet releases "bored the pants" off him.

All my friends seem to like Musicology as well and none of them would be major Prince fans. Also, great to hear some othe Irish fans like me talking about Prince, keep it up.

Dave fanning has lost his touch I think. He used to be great to listen to around 5 or 6 years ago but nowadays he just babbles and loses his way in discussions.

Good to hear he had the Prince record all the same. Can't wait till April 20. Don't have the gear to Download it properly. Have to go the old fashioned way. (play.com that is) lol
