Anyone who saw Prince in concert simulcast at a theater...

...still planning to see him live??

Well, I was fortunate to be one of the lucky ones to watch it simulcast live at a theater and while I enjoyed it very much and while it's great to see him packing arenas again, I prefer watching him in a more intimate setting like when I saw him for the One Night Alone tour at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Personally, I'll pass this one until his next concert tour when he just performs mostly new music like he did for the One Night Alone tour!!

Seein' him three more times in fact...they're making it really easy to go, so I'm taking advantage of it.

But after reading the Arizona concert review, it's just the same stuff and even lesser songs performed at the Staples Center...

Well, the ONA tour (at least in North America) was basically the same set each night...the only real differences were the piano medleys. Keep in mind that there were several shows in which he didn't perform the piano sit-down either. I'm sure the same will thing will happen again with the Musicology tour.

Besides, Prince tends to get "bored" (for lack of a better term) while on tour...usually major set additions take place during extended breaks on the tour. The set changed quite a bit during the Jam of the Year tour in 1997-98, and ONA changed substantially by the time it hit Japan and Europe.

Personally, I've seen Prince live 48 times...and I will be seeing 5 shows on this tour (Pittsbrugh, Columbus, Cleveland, and both Detroit shows). Even at his "worst," Prince is still 100% better than any other live act on the planet and is worth every penny! lol

I'm goin to all 3 MPLS shows. I can't wait. While I love seeing Prince in smaller venues, there's something about the energy with an arena show that makes it a whole different type of show, and one that I enjoy immensely.

ah....HELL YEAH!

I'm going to the first Detroit show, bought tickets to the second show, but
may give those up to someone who hasn't seen him upclose yet...
I agree with you in the sense that a 'hits' show is nice maybe once or twice,
but, in reality, i don't need to see it that many times.
I saw the ONA show 4 times, by the time that 3rd show rolled around, I had
my fill of his 'theocratic order'.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Absolutely. I got my concert ticket way before I got my movie ticket, so I've been planning to see the live show all along. I've never been to a show in the round before. The L.A. simulcast was the most incredible concert I've ever seen by anybody. I was actually hoping that the show is different once he gets to Columbus. I'm SO looking forward to it. L.A. lit a fire under me. I've written 4 songs in 4 days. razz

I'm glad I got to see the Simulcast, and although it was REALLY fun, I just can't make a 2 hour trip to LA anymore. It's too much trouble to look for someone who wants to drive up with me, especially when I don't get much notice before a presale. As far as a hits show goes, Hit N Run was waaaaayyyy better, and he came here so that was cool. I got to see all those hits and MORE when he was here last. That show is still one of my top 5 shows of all time.

So, no, I don't think I'll go to LA this year. Why is he playing so many shows in LA anyway? You think he could squeeze in a San Diego show. It would be cool to see him up close, I've NEVER been in the first 10 rows...

pray Prince, please schedule a San Diego date.

I feel you, though I am willing to make the 2 hour drive, I seem to keep missing the pre-sales. I'm even willing to make the trip to Vegas. But if he would come here to Diego...it would be on.

hey vinablue and morningsong, did you see JOTY at UCSD? or the Hit 'n Run show at Cox?

I remember how much love SD showed at the Cox Arena...and remember how after Prince asked, "how many of you have never seen me before?" and so many people raised their hands or clapped or something. and Prince continued, "i'll come back again and again and again until everyone's seen me."

Still waiting for you to fulfill that promise, Prince. biggrin

and if you need a ride, vinablue...shoot, i'm driving up from the El Centro area. i'll drive by and pick you up. cool

Well, when the choice is to be in his house singing & dancing, having a great time OR be @ home doing laundry or some shit I'LL TAKE THE CONCERT  Going to both shows in my area. Trust me, I won't be bored w/ the setlist - what's better than hearing it live??

I saw him at Cox in SD for the HitNRun tour and it's my least favorite among the Prince concerts I've been in, especially since he sang his hits mostly in medleys and didn't sing a song from the Rave album which he just released within a year of that concert!!

I'm going to 5 concerts, but all of them are in different locations.

The simulcast, just made we want more. Although, I must say that the camera men did an excellent job and I'd love to have this on DVD.

You just can't beat Prince Live and that's the truth. You can feel the electricity in the air when he's performing.

Although I do wish they would a better job scheduling all the extra shows threw me off. (BUT NOT COMPLAING.) This is the most time I've ever had to plan for a concert.

I saw 2 out of 3 of the ONA shows in DC and the 1st one although good, just wasn't as good as the 2nd show.

So for instance, If I had know ahead of time that there were 3 shows in NY, I may have picked the last two instead of the first one. The first ones, he seems to be getting the bugs out of the system, and the fact that there's usually an aftershow after the last of the multiple concerts.

Thanks to three really wonderful friends of mine, I am going to see Prince three times in three different cities. The simulcast only got me hype for the rest of the shows. Especially considering that I have never been within ten rows of the man and these seats are going to kick ass. biggrin

I think there's a good chance you'll get to see him in San Diego before its all said and done. His Texas dates are quite spread out (Dallas was this past weekend, San Antonio is in June and Houston is in August!!!), so I wouldn't be surprised if he came back later on in the tour.

Personally, I like it better that way. If I wind up travelling to see him it will be at a different point in the tour, so it will probably be a slightly different set list.
