either A Million Days or Call My name. It's probably gonna go to A Million Days cuz it needs to hit the POP charts...Musicology is on the R & B charts, I believe. After that, Call My name, if everything goes right.

"Call My Name" on the black and adult contemporary stations.

"A Million Days" OR "Marrying Kind/If I Was the Man..." on mainstream, white stations.

That's my vote. Great, radio-friendly track with some topical references (unusual for a Prince single).

Well, they need to release A Million Days or Cinnamon Girl to pop radio and then, when Musicology starts heading down the chart, release Call My Name to R&B...

EXACTLY! Those were my choice. Prince will not regain notoriety in the black community until he releases a slick and sexy ballad. I think David Z. was right: Prince's strongest commercial draw is his ballads for black radio audiences. That's why CMN is perhaps the best choice. For rockers/pop radio, AMD is the best choice; although I still think TMK/IIWTMIYL would also be a great choice. If the concern is that he needs hits...and badly...then, these would be the most likely culprits.

My vote is for either Cinnamon Girl or The Marrying Kind.
I'm really digging the Marrying Kind the past couple of days. Prince's gonads are swinging all over this one.

Please no Million Days. That song is so Prince by numbers. It's a dumb-downed version of Dolphin, which I love. Then again, the 1,000,000 day reference is so over the top that even if it was musically inspiring I'd still have a difficult time enjoying it. C'mon prince. She's been gone for one measly hour and it feels like a Million days. Puuhhhhllllleeeease.

Now,if Prince said she's been gone for an hour and if feels like Lord of the Rings..then I'd probably be more hip to it.

I'm out.

He'd be even mo betta off if He just stuck to producing arranging and writing music...maybe some background vox now and then...and letting someone he scouted out to write lyrics and do the lead vox

Predict 'Call My Name' if Prince chooses.

I guess it would be 'A Million Days' if Columbia wished to push something that was radio friendly. Although, as has been said, it's Prince radio-friendly pop rock by numbers, it would secure interest in a subseqyent single which might otherwise only be listened to by a niche market. 'Dear Mr Man' or 'Call My Name' could follow.

It depends how much Prince wants to continue playing the promotion-friendly game before he gets bored, I suspect. But the signs are reasonable.

I agree, it is over the top. In the car my mrs. turned to me and asked if she had left him or just popped down the shops. I couldn't answer but she thought he was a big pansy if she had only gone shopping for a bit.

I do like the track though.

I would assume that it's a for-good type of situation. She ain't comin' back. There is no mention or refrence in the song that she's returning. Mere hope exist, and in sad love songs, that usually don't add up to much.

I think "A Million Days" is the best choice if he wants a hit on the top 40.

at first I thought a Million Days...

but now i think Cinnamon Girl is the best choice as 2nd single. It has HIT written all over it.

I figure Call My Name will be released at some point and serviced to R&B stations. It has little pop potential, IMO.

4th single.... pretty much could be anything. I'd like to see The Marrying Kind sneak out there as a single, maybe a slightly longer, remixed version. That would be funky.

Why do people keep saying A Million Days is basic Prince rock by the numbers??! Yes, it does sound a bit like Dolphin, but IMO, it's better, and it's definitely more radio-friendly than Dolphin ever was. And people around here LOVE to praise Dolphin (as it is a damn good cut), but those same folk don't seem to care for AMD!

And while they don't really care for AMD much, they then turn right around and LOVE Cinnamon Girl, which to me sounds like a mix of Dolphin & The Holy River!! Isn't CG, according to y'all, a Prince-by-the-numbers rock track, then?? I, myself, certainly LOVE both of these songs, though. Either one SHOULD be the next single, especially if they're releasing two different songs to the two formats. I still think AM should seriously be the next thing becuz that has just a little bit more potential to do something on the charts. They both can be easily hummed or sung along with, so it's almost a toss-up.

For R&B radio, the next single is guaranteed to be either Call My Name or What Do U Want Me 2 Do!! The latter has that old school Prince sound with the Linn drums and all and would definitely be a hit with the same stations that dig & plays his slow jams, like Call My Name too! CMN is simply a sweet, ear-pleasing ballad Prince is known for. It'll definitely catch this audience's attention.

I just know that Musicology (the single) needs to hurry up and fade away so they can start releasing one or two of these four gems. The title track just does NOT have enough ummph in it to make people who won't/can't go to his show to get a "free" copy of the album.

Co-Sign!!!! God no, that would be a disaster. In my opinion, that song is worse than 'Freaks On This Side'. And for the record, I love Musicology (the album).

Next single should hopefully be 'Dear Mr. Man'.

Life o the party is a horrible stain on the album.... it's just embarrassingly bad. The rest of the album is pretty good, and there are plenty of good single choices. I think Cinnamon Girl is to Musicology as U Got the Look was to Sign of the Times. Not as strong of a song, but the obvious commercial choice for 2nd single. Knowing Prince he'll pull an IIWYG and choose something off the wall like Life o the Party, which would be a shame cause it would sink the album like a stone. Just like IIWYG did to Sign o' the times.

I'm glad somebody said it. This song just floats, catchy as hell and fun to sing along with, not that anyone would want to hear my singing.
I guess "A million Days" could work, but I fear a really cheesy video.
Speaking of which, Sony, or someone, needs to convince our good man that he needs to get Spike Jonze or another really creative director to do his next video.
For such a great artist, his videos have always been among the least interesting.
The "Musicology video" is a step in the right direction...let's hope it continues.

The reason that we know Musicology isa great album, is that almost every song has support as a single choice. My top four in order of release are:

1) ICP&C
2) Call My Name
3) Dr. Mr. Man
4) Cinnamon Girl

Really unimpressed with this album at first...but I'm liking it more everyday. I find the albums I like most I almost always disliked at first listen. And the albums I liked right of the bat I end up not liking much. Anyways, back to the singles:

Call My Name
If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life
Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance

The obvious answer is Call My Name - something that may be in rotation for more than a week. Otherwise, I'd go w/ If I Was the Man In Ur Life...
