OMG....this Musicology album is WEAK! I wanted to like this album...I really did, but it is PAINFULLY boring to listen to. Has Prince forgotten how to write a catchy melody or even something resembling a hook? I love the brother, but I've got to be honest about this one. The title track is OK and I do like Dear Mr. Man but the rest of it is mostly rubbish. Maybe a couple of the songs will grow on me a little, but they aren't doing anything for me after a couple of listens. Life of the Party is tolerable, but most of the other songs aren't.
Oh well, Prince could continue to release crappy albums for the next 20 year and I will remain a loyal fan. His past music is so incredible that he can coast from here. He still is incredible live, so at least he still has that. I just can't figure out how he could go from such a frighteningly brilliant songwriting genius to producing yet another boring album? I guess it is just old age and many geniuses do their best work when they are young. . [This message was edited Thu Apr 1 20:23:56 2004 by RupertZ]

But since "Musicology" has gotten Prince more exposure (TV, Radio, Newspapers, etc.) than his last several CD's combined, it's alright with me.

The first step is admitting you have a problem. [This message was edited Thu Apr 1 20:55:48 2004 by psykosoul]

I thought the new album was very good. Not like his greatest work but a very good album and definatly better than C&D & The Vault. I thought with the exception of one or 2 songs it was very consistant and I enjoyed it a lot. I dont know what some people are expecting from this man. If you want him to have hits like he did in the 80's it wont happen. This isnt the 80s anymore and that style and sound isnt what he does. Prince is the biggest independant artist out there right now and Prince will do what Prince wants. He could easily write and sound like Purple Rain all over again if he wanted to but would you honestly be happy with that? Wouldnt you be a bit upset that hes not doing something differant. Truth is most people dont handle change easily and with each of his albums being differant sometimes people dont dig it. Take a few more listens to the disc if you get another copy (why you hate it so much you sold it on ebay is beyond me it makes a good disc to the collection) and just engulf yourself in the music. Its not that bad lol

I think Chaos and Disorder is infinitely better than this album. And I would just like him to write some good songs. I know he can still do it, but somehow he is not. Or maybe he really can't do it. The last great songs he wrote were "One Nite Alone" and "U're Gonna C Me" and ONA was barely a song. I just don't get what he is going for with Musicology...the title track is a real song for the first half, but then he screws it up. He can't seem to just write a good standard song with verses and choruses, etc. Or maybe he just doesn't want to and this stuff sounds good to him. Oh well, I don't get it, but it isn't the first time and it won't be the last.

Eminem's new single My Band is better than any track on Musicology... "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."
"We had fun, didn't we?" -Prince (1958-2016) 4ever in my life
