You can only have one Prince album - which one would it be?

I hate questoins like this too... but... if you could only have one Prince album which one would it be?

I've thought long and hard about this... and well... I think it's LOVESEXY.

Oh my... !

I should own up. It was the first Prince album that really got me, not the first Prince I bought though. Listening to it now, it seems to contain precursors of the styles he still writes and includes in current repertoire althoug the energy is fresher / younger.

What peturbs me about his choice is the whole Black Album / Lovesexy thing. But you know, may be we'll never get past that whole thing. Like Yin and Yang or something. A binary system. Oh boy.... better stop now.

You wanna talk about this?

"Sign O the Times" is my choice...so many classics and a song for every mood. Feel happy, "Housequake". Feel depressed, "Sign O the Times. Feel in love, "Adore" or "Forever in My Life". Feel in lust, "It". Feel sexually confused, "If I was your Girlfriend". I could go on but it always seems like whatever I have needed to hear over the years, the album has always been there for me. Plus I have this great memory of how my beloved aunt Cookie, who passed 5 years ago, bought me my first copy on tape with the longbox (God I miss longboxes). Then we went to go see "Police Academy IV". Okay, actually that's pretty dorky memory but I thought I'd share...

Another great thing about this album is that I sing a few of these songs every night (Forever in My Life, Starfish and Coffee, The Cross) to get my 2-year old to sleep. She has no idea she is being brainwashed into being a member of the New Power Generation. biggrin

Lovesexy was the first Prince album I bought, and I darn near wore that thing (cassette) out! I can never choose a fave Prince album, but I guess this one is always sorta special to me. cool

It's like the slogan for Lays potato chips; I can't eat/pick just one. It's just a dilemma born of having such a great, wide-ranging catalog. And it's weird, cuz...although there are (obviously)what I deem top tier Prince albums, I couldn't pick just one from that top tier.
