Which half of Musicology do you prefer?

It seems to me that when most people list their favorite songs on Musicology they usually belong to the same half of the album. For example, a lot of the people who like A Million Days best also like Cinnamon Girl and Call My Name (all first half).

For me, all the songs I like are in the second half: If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life, Dear Mr Man, The Marrying Kind, What Do You Want Me To Do.

So which half do you prefer?

I like the first half over the second half, except for Life of the Party.

The whole damn thing is like a delicious fugue state to me...there are some songs I like more than others, but as a whole, lately it's been a really good way to make 49 minutes go fast.

nod This album really sucks in that we've heard it all before... I'm listening to it right now and it just sounds uninspired. When compared to this CD, TRC really is a masterpiece!

I actually think Anxiety's comments were supposed to be read as praise for the album. But I can see how you could have interpreted it differently. "The whole damn thing" doesn't sound all that positive, does it? On another thread somebody called a song "plain ridiculous", but if you kept reading you eventually realized that it was intended as serious praise... It's weird how flexible some expressions are.

I like the whole thing but I tend to think that the second half overall is stronger.

Also, I'm starting to think the Dear Mr Man is one of Prince's best ever songs, I'm really feeling it. I never want it to end when i listen to it. I hope that there is an extended version out there. biggrin

i have been listening to the second half over and over. i have not been able to get too into the first half...yet. i am warming up to pimp and circumstance. i have a feeling those songs on the first half are going to grow on me. i am really happy with prince's recent albums: rainbow children was a concept album and really well done from beginning to end (minus wedding feast). news was experimental improvisational music and more people would have liked it if it was leaked out as a bootleg rather than an official release. and this album is more pop with alot of blues in it. it just really shows how diverse his musical output is. i don't like everything he releases, but i respect the fact that it is a true artist releasing his art for all of us to enjoy or just listen to it once and respect the fact that it came from him and then put it on the shelf (like ona piano).
