You Better Face It, Musicology Is Pretty Damn Hot. First off, I'm gonna leave TRC out of this, as I think it's an entirely different animal than anything before or since from Prince...
I've been listening to this album (Musicology) nearly non-stop since the screening on Monday, and I think it's time to admit that there is much for a Prince fan to sink their teeth into on this disc: - Great funky, YET MELODIC workouts (ICPC/If I Was...) - Some really good, guitar-driven, straight ahead rock tracks (A Million Days, Cinnamon Girl, The Marrying Kind) - Cool, sexy ballads (On The Couch, Call My Name) What I particularly am noticing: - A spirit of joy throughout: It sounds like Prince having fun, not pretending too, as in some recent releases, IMHO - Every listen brings a new track to the forefront - the sign of a truly great album - Cool lyrical stuff: Interesting political/religious narrative without being preachy - Cinnamon Girl Completely wack, "Prince could only have written it" funny story - ICPC Well-stated Social commentary - Dear Mr. Man Nice take on relationship stuff - If I was.../ The Marrying Kind * Is it Purple Rain, NO... Is it a fun, catchy, cohesive, extremely balanced release, where we get to see Prince being Prince again, and in my opinion, his best CD since TGE...Heck heah!

I think the keyword with this album, to ME anyway, is RELAXED.
The man just sounds comfortable recording music. He's not trying to second guess himself. He's not working out some kind of agenda. He just sounds like he had fun making some songs, and he paid attention to all the right details. Nice.

I think some of yall are so happy to have a new Prince album with vocals that you don't know what to do Overall, I think it's a solid album. But nothing to strip buckit-nekkid in the streets for.

TRC had vocals. Wasn't thrilled with it. ONA had vocals. It was okay, but I wasn't thrilled with it. NPS and Rave...umm, well, you know.... Musicology? Loving it. Sorry.
