Oh Lawd! Questlove's response to becoming Prince's drummer *sigh* i was readin' my morning gossip coloumn, and there it was, in print:
Our OKP/Questlove Reply Wednesday March 31, 2004 We put up a lil’ rumor about Questlove and The Roots and him really wanting to play drums for Prince. Well, we got an email and Questie replied, but we don’t quite understand what he meant. Here is the reply that was posted on the coveted Okayplayer.com message boards: “classic case of "no one got shot this week so let's just talk about ANYTHING" couldn't mofos just give me a bigup and say nice article? clef wrote about marley, but no one is saying that he gonna do the bob reveiw 2004---on the real maybe they shoulda focused on the fact that only 2 hip hop acts got on rolling stone's 50 list (i woulda at LEAST expected 7 to 8 but not 2).” First, Quest - people getting shot is NEWS so the rumors would never deal in that. This is just chit chatter, Well, Quest we honestly didn’t even know you had a piece in the latest Rolling Stone, truth be told. We couldn’t talk about Clef because nobody said anything to us about Clef. But the person that had this to say is a serious Prince fan, fanatic, club member and all that. Apparently, he or she thought they knew something about you and apparently they were wrong. HEY GUYS QUESTLOVE AIN’T LEAVING THE ROOTS, PRINCE OR NO PRINCE! AND, we know what happened to Malik B, duh! Hey, never let it be said that we aren’t quick to dead a rumor. Moving on. you can read the rest on http://www.allhiphop.com/rumors/ "Pedro offers you his protection."

For real man, that's a wack statement. How many times has P professed his love for Miles? And nobody knows how P truly feels about anybody unless you hear it from him.

Hip-hop should be thankful they got 2 acts on the list - awful, awful genre of music, killed popular music. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord

i'm feeling torn. I liked Quest before, but lately he's been trippin'. He's aiiight, but i think someone told him he was the -ish- and he's gotten a bit puffed up.
I do not think Prince has any problems with real down Black men. Look at his past collaborations. He has always in some way gainfully employed a Black man somehow. Plus, it doesn't matter whether the drummer's B or W. I just want it funky. -my "Pedro offers you his protection."

I feel awful for ya. Cuz hip hop is gonna be here for a long while. I appriciate what it's given to society. A voice for that demographic that previously didn't have one. Hip Hop also gives room for commentary on the state of affairs in that same dempgraphic. I enjoy all of that, along with hip hop's longevity, all the better to keep you irritated longer.

Popular mainstream hip hop ain't out to speak for anything or anyone but themselves. And the Joss Stone comment was witty. Yup, I call what's on the airwaves and charts now "RAP." The ingredients for Rap are as follows; Must contain subject matter dealing with; Money Girls (ho's, yamps, tricks, pick one) 'Player' or 'Pimp' (utilizing said hos and tricks mentioned previously) Platinum & Diamond jewelry (possibly located on every tooth, wrist, neck, finger, ear, and belt buckle) Rims (Spinners, 20"+, Chrome etc) Cars (escalades, Bentely's, Range Rovers and Hummers) and finally some violence (it's gotten way better than it used to be) Hip Hop speaks on social change, the improvement of lifestyles of an entire race. Hip Hop represents the 'tears' of the people. See artist like; Common, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Black Eyed Peas, Lauryn Hill and Ms. Badu to name a few. Even some Prince Blue Blue

Yeah, Kanye is in the rotation as well for me. #8 Never let you down: is a great song, my favorite verse is... "I get down for me grandfather, who took my mama made her sit in that seat where white folks ain't wont us to eat. At the tender age of six she was arrested for the sit-ins, and with that in my blood I was born to be different. Now n****s can't make it to ballots to chose leadership, but we can make it to 'Jacobs' or the dealership. S' why I here new music, and I jus don't be feelin it, racism still alive, they just be concealin' it...." I can kind of relate to that verse. That's my favorite part of the whole album.
