A Million Days = Dolphin?

Am I the only person hearing Dolphin when I hear A Million Days from the new album? I love this song, but I'm hearin' Dolphin loud and clear...in fact, I can even sing the lyrics to that song along to A Million Days, easy as pie.

And, you know, that's cool...that tune needs a second life. If it wasn't for that whole freakazoid playing-possum-and-Mayte-the-hardcore-rave-angel-of-death schtick, it coulda been a hit the first time around...

this 'million miles' song was the first stand out track for me and yup, i do hear dolphin in this song. not in a bad way. in a really good way, because i think dolphin is one of prince's best songs ever. (studio version, and also even the way he's done it live lately).
i also hear a bit of strays of the world, and even into the light, sort of.

i'm still absorbing this album, and refraining from quick judgments, but i will say that dolphin hit me way more hard than this song, but maybe that is simply because this reminds me of dolphin, whereas dolphin was like nothing that came before.

personally i would like to see him explore this 'style', mode, vein of writing more.

as for that letterman performance,- that really really blew me away, as a song, the performance of it. the suicide death, mayte angel thing didn't really bother me at all. kinda liked it even.

You know, I had to go back and check this, but I'm with you on this. I was wondering why it was so easy for me to feel this song. It had my attention immediately as a nice-tempoed track. To compare it to Dolphin is right on the money in the best way imaginable. I lvoe both tunes. Dolphin would have seen a longer life had it been put out there, methinks.

No, you're not the only one. I hear it fo 'sho!! The drums are basically identical to Dolphin's, and though they're probably "cousins", I think I prefer this track to Dolphin (some parts of Cinnamon Girl also remind me of Dolphin). I'm still trying to digest this album, though. I HATE that cheesy keyboard sound from the Emancipation era that he uses again here on a couple of tracks. I forget which ones, but they're more towards the end of the album.

I definitely hear Dolphin. Unfortunately, Dolphin's one of my least favorite songs - I can't listen to it. I also hear "Three Chains 'O Gold", which I also can't listen to.

Which makes "A Million Days" a bit problematic for me.

No question though - the song "Musicology" gets better with each listen. Vote's definitely out on the rest of the album though

Side note: I was at Staples last night. Hands down, the greatest show I've ever seen. And not just the best Prince show. I'm talking the best thing I've EVER seen.

I had the same impression.
I guess that "A Million Dayz" is what "Dolphin" grew up 2 b!! I like the vibe of dolphin, though I think the lyrics goes silly at times...A million days, on the other hand, has similar vibe and sound, but it's more mature.

yes, it´s got that dolphin vibe but the only thing that prevents me from thinking this is a good song is that Prince doesn´t know how to end an otherwise good pop song, he just goes on and on but the damn thing won´t stop...it´s so frustrating

Yeah, I mentioned that yesterday. Dolphin and A Million Days. I think it's just similar because of the mild tempo and similar drums. Both songs are fine. Actually I think A Million Days is a nicer song than Dolphin less anger, more pop. Great.

Very similar sound, but, fortunately, MUCH better lyricsin "Million Days." When he starts talking about reincarnation or animals, I always cringe a little. Also, the vocal layers are a bit mroe complex and interesting in "Million Days." I do wish the drums were turned up a bit on all the "rock" songs.

A Million Days is a Potpourri of past tracks. It's got a little bit of Little Red Corvette at the beginning, a big helping of Dolphin and a big fat stack of 3 Chain O' Gold somewhere in there. lol
