Prince Just Kicked My Ass...TWO TIMES.

I can't think of the last time Prince made my jaw drop.

Before this year, that is. Before the Grammy performance, that is. Before he reunited with Wendy on Tavis Smiley for "Reflection", that is. Before he dug out "I Feel For You" on Ellen, that is. Before he did that little dance to the couch on Jay Leno....you get the idea.

And maybe I'm just easily amused, but damn. It's been a good year, and we're only three months into it.

I just got home from the screening of the LA show, and I'm wondering how this guy can even be human after all he did up on that stage tonight.

And my jaw hurts from hitting the floor so damn much.

For all you cynics in doubt who don't think Prince can recapture a sliver of what he may have been worth to you in what you consider to be his glory days, prepare to be daddy's little bitch boy again. The man done woke UP.

Asses were grinding. Guitars were smoking. The man's pushing fifty and he even managed to recapture the rolling around on the floor bliss that is the end of The Beautiful Ones.

And I haven't even mentioned the acoustic set. Can we say "7"? "Forever in my Life", maybe? Oh yeah. Uh huh. That's right.

Tonight was Prince's equivalent of Elvis' comeback concert. It was shit hot. The man is AWAKE.

I'd love to go through a comprehensive track list right now, but after watching all that mess, I'm lucky to remember my own name.

And then there's the album. Remember the title of this post? Ass kicked TWO TIMES?

"Musicology" is a PRINCE ALBUM. Moreso than NEWS, Rainbow Children or Rave.

It's an album like the symbol album. Like Diamonds and Pearls. Dare I say it, it's a Prince album like Lovesexy is a Prince album.

Does Musicology MATCH his best albums? Oh, probably not. What can? But I'm telling you, it's the first true and consistent PRINCE ALBUM I've heard in years. Hate it if you gotta, it just leaves more love for me.

I'm damn happy right now. Anyone who came back from that concert/simulcast feeling minus something just isn't letting it sink in.

I'm amazed. Devastated.

Bliss.

It's gonna be a hell of a year, people. Enjoy it to the last drop.

Wow.

And I didn't even mention the solo acoustic version of Little Red Corvette.

And that he did U Got The Look, which I'd NEVER seen live before.

And a bunch of other stuff that I'm too shellshocked to remember right now.

Again: WOW.

I just got back from the actual LA Staples Center concert, where I sat "7" rows from the man . . . I could see the eyeliner on his face!!

All I have to say, is that I feel truly blessed to have been a part of something soooo beautiful, so moving, so brilliant!!! I mean, when he came back for the acoustic set, I could see the emotion in HIS eyes; that's when I had to break down myself and cry (even more than I had been the whole night from being overjoyed)!!! He has in NO WAY lost his spark; it's akindle like never before!!

As Alicia Keys (somehat) put it: there are many kings; both mythological and real, but, there is ONLY ONE PRINCE!!
Whatever u heard about me is true, I change the rules and do what I wanna do; I'm in love with God, He's the only way; cause u and I know we gotta die someday; you think I'm crazy, ur probally right; but I'm gonna have fun every motherf***in' night!"

Anxiety: EVERYTHING YOU SAID thumbs up!

So many times...so many was I amazed...from Shhhh (never liked this...but daaammnn!...i am converted) To Question of U and The one. Little Red Corvette was great as it always is live. Sometimes it snows in april cased tears to spill.

Then the CD on the way home. He is back! and no ass kissing involved here. All the songs are great. I heard someone say On the Couch was "filler" um after seeing that done live...certainly not filler. Little nuances everywhere. A million days is simply great. A true Prince Album. Flavors of old...and a lot new. I hope there will be a few more singles ...and of couse b-sides. razz

Can't wait to see him live...well I have a bit to tide me over now.

thanks to prince for providing a performace that certainly can't be touched bar none. can't imagine paying a certian 300 for something that wouldn't even come close to this.

and who's eating those nasty potato chips? lol

Anxiety, you said it. I only got to see the screening myself and if that was just a taste of what the live performance was, those that got the privledge to attend were blown away. He has it all and he showed it this night. Couldn't even begin to list what was sung, it would be a very long list. All the favorites. Is there going to be an after party does anybody know? I'd like to know where he gets that energy, he doesn't spare a drop. This was not an opportunity to miss. And he still looks good, not one sign of age. And to think he hasn't had one nose job done either.

On a completely other note, I really have to express my heartfelt gratitude to TheOrgerFormerlyKnownAs for carting my ass to this amazing event, and for sharing this experience with me. I'm sooo happy to have shared it with someone who has been a fan as long as I have, and who I could shoot a eek at and she'd shoot me a eek right back. I'm really happy that I will be able to look back on tonight and think about sharing these memories with someone as cool as her.

Great thread.

Both interestingly written and full of positivity.

Okay, I just thought of one thing I didn't like about the show: I really really don't like tenor sax, and that sax solo was just like Kenny G fingernails on a chalkboard hell to me.

Still and all, though - that killer long-ass note was pretty freakin amazing.

Anxiety....great write up!!! Yes, the show was incredible. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was being that it's another tour of greatest hits (which we have heard time and time again). This performance was different though. Full of soooo much energy and passion. Prince was feeling it tonight. This is definately his year to shine. I just don't get it....how can he keep getting better and better???

YOu left out the guitar solo at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. That was a bigger deal than Ellen or Leno . Prince was getting props and showed why he should have gotten more sooner. Your ass was thoroughly kicked after Prince threw the guitar in the air at the end.

The whole friggin' show just blew my mind! I mean, I really didn't get too excited, because of it being a "hits" show (and I'm about sick of the hits), but he totally delivered! Definitely a "Lovesexy 88" vibe going (and I'm not just talkin' about the in-the-round setting).

The acoustic set was worth the admission price alone, and he did more dancing than he has in years. It had a little bit of everything that made me a Prince fan to begin with.

Oh, and anyone who thinks he lost his "nasty" edge after he became a JW needs to check out his live version of "On The Couch". No cuss words, but DAYUM, he still got freaky!

Prince, all is forgiven! Rave? Forgiven! NPS? Fuggedaboutit! The Crystal Ball fiasco? You more than made up for that with your generosity with this show!

You're killing me. Killing me.

I have been a Prince fan for 25 years and have never been able to see him live until now. This will be my first concert and you guys are making the wait harder and harder! I won't get to see him until June 12th in Bossier City. If he's this passionate and energetic now, is he going to be burned out by the time he reaches me? Am I going to have to make do with my 'B-Sides' and 'Lovesexy' and 'SOTT' CDs or should I go ahead and purchase 'Musicology' now before I implode? A sista is going to have to stay away from these posts or lose her mind!
