MUSICOLOGY...BETTER THAN RAVE BUT NOT AS GOOD AS THE GOLD EXPERIENCE...AGREE?

so where would you put the musicology album?...i think most orgers would agree that it is better than rave, emancipation and chaos and disorder....but not as good as the gold experience...do y'all agree or not? cool ...
...
...i don't think it should be compared to the rainbow children as that was totally different from anything he has done before.

I agree that it's completely uncomparable to TRC. I'm glad both exist. wink
As for you initial question... hmm, I sure as hell like the production of Musicology much better... both have tremendous songs. But in my opinion, TGE has some filler tracks or completely messed-up songs (We March, Now), and Musicology has no filler whatsoever.

Musicology is damn good, let's leave it at that!

Hold Up, "Now" was the str8 Jam, what's wrong with your speakerz? I agree, this disc is better than Rave, but, "Man O' War" is clearly the best cut from Rave. TGE is better then both, and TRC as well.

That's my 2% of a dolla.

Shows how we all differ. I absolutely adore TGE. It's what got back on the P bandwagon big time.

I agree with everything you said, except the bit about "Man O'War". My LEAST favorite track on Rave!

TGE is a straight up fantastic album.

Other than NPS, almost all of P's records are better than Rave.

I don't care for 'Rave' or 'TGE' personally so it's not much of a stretch for me to say that 'Musicology' beats either of them.

It's still far too early for this album to say quite where it ranks. Too much of what's being said about it, on this board and others, is the result of over-emotion and excitement in respect to what's happening right now with Prince's career.

Straight up. TGE is beautiful and never seems tired or old. In fact it's like good wine....smile

"Musicology" is great, his best and most consistent album since "The Gold Experience". It's not as good as "The Gold Experience" though, not by a long shot. It's not even as good as the "High" album/compilation.

I have asked this somewhere b4, but anyway, I am curious to know if there is anything on Musicology that sounds like any of the stuff on TGE? Some1 said that 1 of the songs is a lot like Dolphin? Anything else????

Well no.... ur'e not really the "odd man out". I don't have Musicology yet, and I like all of P's albums, It's just that I like some more than others, and TGE is an absolute fave of mine, just as Lovesexy or one of the others is for some of the other orgers here.

Musicology does have a TGE sound. Less hooky than classic Prince, but just good solid funk, rock and soul. The rock songs do definitely have a Dolphin sound, but the lyrics on Musicology rarely fall back on the formulaic (well, ok, yeah, Life of the Party, but that's about it) or embarrassing. Think that's why I like it a hair better in the end. On TGE, I love Shh, Shy, Eye Hate U, Now, Billy Jack Bitch; I like 319, Endorphinmachine, P Control, TMBGITW, We March...I'm not a fan of Dolpin (ridiculous lyrics) or Gold (corny, blatant attempt at "Purple Rain" like anthem.) I'm kind of a lyric guy, and after the heavy-handed Rainbow Children, this feels like a real return to form, with a new, relaxed, still fun-loving maturity.

I feel the same way about these albums including Musicology: I only like about 3 songs on each. Actually, I'll take Emancipation disc 2 (plus a couple of songs from 1 and 3) over Rave, Gold Experience and Musicology. If not for the annoying voice on TRC, I'd take that over all of'em,too.

Hmmmm...

TGE for me was the last great P album that contains songs that I know I will be playing in 10 years.

Shh, I hate U, BJB, Dolphin, Shy.

Upon first listen musicology seemed...OK. I am not crazy of Prince using himself as lead and backing vocals, sounds very 3 Chains of Gold to me. That aside, Musicology contains, IMHO, some of his best work in a long time and the songs continue to grow on me every time I listen to them (like that should be a surprise to any Prince fan).

Musicology, ICPC, Life of the Party, Cinnamon Girl, What Do U Want me 2 do, Reflection, Call My Name are all killer tracks. The rest, to date, are good but not essential. Of course that may change within weeks.

I am very pleased with this album and I am grateful to Mr. Nelson for continuing to provide me with new music that I can dance, think about, and make love to.

Peace.

I agree.
I haven't had Musicology long enough to objectively rank it against his other releases, but
at the moment it certainly feels like his most satisfying 'commercial' release since TGE.

Do you know that most of Prince songs are him in the lead and backing vocals?
so it must get on your nerves because in all his songs he does this. evillol
