Did P record 'Nothing Compares To You?' If so, what album is it on. I know The Family recorded it, but I don't recall him actually recording it...same with Shhh...I know Tevin Campbell released it as a single and I knew P wrote it, but I don't recall it actually being recorded by P.

You can find P's version of 'Shhh' on The Gold Experience. As for Nothing Compares 2 U...i've not heard the original studio recording of the song...only The Family's, Prince's live versions etc.

Worst - 1. Tevin Cambell : Shhhh!
2. ? : 1999 I forget the group name but this was a dance club remake. The group consisted of two men and a woman. It was bad. 3. Prince : 1999 New Masters. No offense but he should have left it alone. Best - 1. Stephanie Mills: How come you don't call me anymore? 2. Patti Labell: I hear your Voice 3. Joe Crocker: 5 Women 4. ? : Violet the Organ Grinder I have no idea who the band is but they made a kicking speed metal/club mix (sorta in the vain of Lords of Acid "Lover". _________________________________________

I wouldn't count Tevin's "Shh" or Sinead's "Nothing Compares 2 U" as covers, since they recorded them before he did.
In general, Prince covers make me gag. The very worst of the worst has to be Mariah Screamy and Sisqo the FemmeDragon pissing all over one of my favorite songs of all time, but I've put you through that before. On the positive side, I've always enjoyed TLC's "If I Was Your Girlfriend," although maybe that has more to do with the crush I've had on T-Boz since I was 13... The Normal Whores Club

Well, I wouldn't say they recorded them before he did...Prince had to have recorded a "rough" version of each of the tracks to give to the artist (Tevin/Sinead/whoever), so technically they are still covers...sort of.

There's a great Prince cover album called "sexykinkyjazzysmooth". Basically, 3 different jazz/funk bands cover 12 songs, half instrumental, and the results are amazing, and believe me , I know most tribute/cover albums suck.
There are great mid-tempo rocking versions of "purple Rain" "anothloverholeinyohead" & "letitgo". Beautiful sad versions of "Adore" and "Pop Life", a swinging "delirious" and more. There is tremendous musicianship on this album, and the lead vocals are great, by Solomon Burke Jr. It's on the Vitamin Record label, and worth seeking out if it's still in print. Eugnj420
