As a song writer, I'd hate to be Prince

I thought I'd raise this thought for discussion as opinions, good & bad, are now being expressed about his latest release.

Obviously any fan of Prince who writes music like myself (whether they admit it or not) has a desire to be just like him lol. But Prince must have a real hard time putting together his latest release. It seems many fans are waiting for him to write another album as genius as the likes of Purple Rain, SOTT etc. It must be such a daunting task for an artist like Prince to embark on a new song or album because (regardless of which Prince album is your favourite) many of the songs in Prince's back catalogue are pretty hard to top. How do you possibly follow such prolific songs!

I dunno mate... any fan that has been around for the last 10 or 15 years is not gonna be too surprised either way smile It's been a "mixed bag" throughout his career, which is what keeps us interested I suppose. No one ever really knows what to expect from a new Prince album. I mean, The Rainbow Children came outta nowhere!

For sure... Can you imagine people still waiting around for Aretha to come out with another Lady Soul or the Stones with another Exile on Main Street?

By the way, as a thread writer (?), I'd take out a "t" in "writter" and insert a "be" in "hate to Prince". smile Unless you are suggesting that some people literally hate to the tune of Prince's music.

I don't think prince try2 top past albums but more so add to his repatoire of songs and ideas/concepts. If prince was concerned with topping past albums he would have stayed the course after the success ofPR and repeated the same formula instead of coming out with AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY and totally different sound. Prince like any artist just wants his work 2 be appreciated on its own merrit and not because it sounded like the hit b4 hand. Thats what i love about him that on 1 album/cd that there will be a song that i can't stand and totally don't get y he felt the need 2 include it and then a couple or 3 song s that r good and don't sound like anything on radio at the time and 1 song that i can't stop listening 2. And it's like that 4 me on almost every release.
U,ME,WE!....2FUNKY!

Thats what I mean, good as he is, he cant get it right everytime. It must be really hard for him making a new album when he has so much great material already out there & when hes made mistakes before.
