Boni or Rosie

Which female counterpart do you think Prince sounded better collaborating with?

I personally think it just depended on the song. Rosie sounds better singing slower, ballad-like songs like "Diamonds & Pearls" whereas Boni seemed to rip the hell outta up-beat tracks like "The Line."

Speaking of Boni, was Prince ever planning on releasing a solo album of hers? confuse

I love Rosie but my preference was Boni.

Boni kicked ass. I just preferred her screech over Rosie's, but they was both mighty cool.

What did happen to Boni?

Sorry to be the one to inform your but Bonnie Boyer is deceased. I too preferred Bonnies rough screeches thrown in from time to time along with her taking the stage on occasion during aftershows to sing whole songs. Rosie was way too powerful, she was an exciting entertainer on her own. Instead of a back up singer, Rosie was more of a collaborative artist with Prince.

Yeah, Boni just had that raw gospel-like soul. I'll really miss that about her. touched
I would've loved to see her sing songs by herself at the aftershows. And speaking of aftershows...does anyone remember an aftershow where Prince was singing "Just My Imaginatin" and gave the mic to Mica Paris in the audience. I only heard a snippet of it, but from what I heard, she ripped it! That gul can sho' nuff sang!!! clapping

I preferred Rosie, mostly thanks to the unreleased demo version of Daddy Pop. If you ever hear that, it is one of the most amazing, funkiest vocal performances ever. Boni's screech was just annoying, although she was talented.

I remember seeing that on the BBC documentary a while back. It was seriously cool - fantastic voice coming from the audience. I only saw a very small clip in which Mica just sang the:

"It was just - MYYYYY imagination. Oooooh..." but it was headbang

Exactly my thoughts ! Rosie Gaines is too much an artist on her own, she´s cool, but not really a great choice as a backup or duet singer.
Not to disrespect Rosie, I really like her as a solo artist, but I think she´s way too dominant on stage. I prefer Boni...Rest in peace, God bless her soul.
Am I the only one who doesn´t like Nothing Compares 2 U as a duet ? The solo performances in La Coruna, Spain ´92 and Argentinia ´91 kick major ass, Prince on the piano singing his heart out, but as a duet the song never did much for me , especially accompanied by Rosie..
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I never liked the song...period! UNTIL I heard the recent arrangement by Prince on the Ellen show. That version now ranks as one of my favorite ballads by Prince. thumbs up!
