As long as you also buy the CD so as to not steal from the guy, it's no too big a deal. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

What do you mean, mp3 insanity?
Anyway, which tracks did you find on Kazaa? The only ones I see are the ones that have been in there for a year or so. Peace, Splash, When Eye Lay My Hands On U, Mad, We Gon' Make it Funky...that's it. Or are they named something that I'm not aware of? No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Ah, okay...I see some of the tracks from Musicology...well, I'm waiting until tonight, personally!
NPG needs to have someone whose job it is to get legit tracks off of the P2P servers...there are MANY smart ways to do it, as anyone who tries to download new releases from big acts on Kazaa knows. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

The DRM wont allow the files to be played unless you have the original liscense. You can dload all the mp3s TWICE but they wont work. Disclaimer: All sentences resembling insults alive or otherwise, are purely coincedental.

Wow, so anyone trying to download the songs off Kazaa has no chance hearing 'em? That's pretty good news for Prince then. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

It's true...
I just tried downloading a load of the Musicology tracks on KaZaa and they're ALL blank (i.e. 4 mins of silence) or fake.

All tracks from the club are in wma format, mp3 has no option to restrict its use, contrary to wma.
All mp3's downloaded from KaZaA will work, but there are the notorious fake or silence tracks, which can make it a bit hard to track down the right copy. Record companies purposely flood the P2P-networks with those fake tracks, to discourage downloaders.

I purchased the album this morning. However, as my personal mp3 player and CD Burner program only allow the use of mp3s, I could be in the odd position of also downloading them from Kazaa too!
Unless you can get CD Writer programs that can use .wma files. Or a program to convert .wma to .mp3. Anyone know if I can? EDIT: question answered in other current threads - I can avoid Kazaa thank goodness! [This message was edited Mon Mar 29 5:08:20 2004 by McD]

used 2 download but don't anymore -- it's getting way out of control. this file-sharing beast needs to be put down, fast. it's killing the industry. when it comes to music, most youth have no consideration for copyright or morals, which is probably largely because most of the artists they dig are 'gangstaz'. meanwhile music stores are closing, and record companies are getting more and more paranoid about album security and those protected discs that don't work on computers. we'll all lose out in the end.

For those of you unable to do anything with the tracks you paid for and downloaded from NPGMC this program may help www.highcriteria.com. In regard to files needing license to play that isn't true; these files were put out there by NPGMC to track demographics of where downloads are coming from. If you notice all the songs are different lengths and most of the times end in some weird Princely number like 319 or 727 or something. Looks like I'll have to download the mp3's if I want a copy. The files I bought and paid for will only burn in Windows Media player, which promptly crashes every time I fire up its burner. They also won't convert in any of several format conversion utilities I have tried due to the encryption. At the moment I'm not seeing any of the files on Kazaa or Soulseek though. You better wake up, Stella. This is my town!

Co-mutherfunkin-Sign! The Industry put themselves in this position though. The artist is getting screwed every which way you can think. With the bootleggers, downloaders, burners, no way they can make it on album sells alone. Every Cd wherhouse in Houston is closed along with Wherehouse Music. It definitely is a sad state of affairs and it's not going to get better any time soon. That's why I think it is sooo important to support an artist like Prince, at least he is trying to raise the level of discourse on the subject. 1 over Jordan...the greatest since

They're all on emule as zipped Ogg Vorbis files and they play just fine. And yes, I will be buying it when it comes out, even though I'm not keen on what I've heard so far.
