This is an very focused album - Every track is a winner and each have commercial as well as artistic merit - 9/10 for this release.... One of Princes best, certainly best of the last ten years, but its up there with all of his best ...

'Life O Party', 'Hey Mr Man' and 'Pimp' are freakin' awesome jams!

His singing on some tracks is perhaps his best ever committed to tape - fantastic performances on the r&b stuff like 'Call My Name' ...

Get your copy now - it won't leave your cd for weeks - It gets better with every listen

This guy nails the review...I've been listening to it all day... and its true the magic seems to be gone....Call My Name, If I was the man in you life and reflection are the only tracks that seem to stand out for me but there is no "Holy River" or "sex in summer" or "in this bed i scream" so overall this album is so far around the level of Rave ....better than rainbow children since it doesnt have those hatefull lyrics...

still psyched for the show..and glad he's having a mini comeback..

Listened to this about 7 times now (yeah i know, get a life Bogs) but it improves with each listen. Nothing takes away from the fact that Life of the Party is shit, but that's obvious.

Illusion... is a very good track. He's tried this style quite a few times before, but this actually hits the mark. On the Couch and Dear Mr Man are both outstanding tracks.

If you need uplifting, play the Chocolate Invasion and Musicology back to back. The latter is so superior it's almost laughable (with the exceptions of Vavoom and The Train, which are great tracks).

It ain't as kick ass as TRC, because although the lyrics on that album veered from laughable to offensive, and from incomprehensible to plain annoying, musically I thought it was a magnificent work.

But it's streets ahead of Rave. If - and that's a big fucking IF, a couple of songs are correctly picked as singles (and there's already been a cock up with picking the title track as the first single), it could do well commercially, I really think it could.

I pretty much agree with your review. However, I would give the LP a 7.5/10. I think you're being pretty harsh on Musicology and Illusion, Pimp(great title...but that Louie Vega impersonation is annoying).... As weak as they are you gave "Life of the Party" a rating on the same par. I think I hate Life of the Party more than Jughead.

My review of your review

You like songs I'm not crazy about and dislike songs I could be crazy about. You are good at voicing your opinions. Unfortunately, your opinions sound like rethreads form the Post-Collective debacle years. They lack soul, have an awful programmed beat and you can't dance to them because they are written for a chorus line of one-legged rockettes.

2/10!

lol

This CD is solid...totally disagree with your review, but U get an A for effort. thumbs up!

Upon my FIRST listen, I heard 5 STANDOUT joints...
1. Musicology ~ if this don't make ya move, you got no soul
2. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance ~ great vocal delivery, FUNKY
3. A Million Days
4. Dear Mr. Man
5. Reflection

Now, I'm off to listen once 'gain...

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
