Review of the Musicology cd! I got my copy from the Reno concert. Here are my first impressions:
The first cut, Musicology, sounds better the more u hear it. And thanks to that cool video I think it has some chart potential. The second cut is kinda forgettable. The third, "A Million Days" sounds promising at the start but after a while it started to remind me a lot of "The Arms of Orion" and I doubt it would chart much better than that song. The next song is "Life of the Party" and is this albums attempt at hip hop, much like "Hot With U" was in Rave. I don't think this one works too well either. Next comes "Call My Name", which I suspect will be the second single since Prince already said this was his favorite cut. It's a ballad and could be a mild hit on the R&B charts. Real mellow and this one is growing on me. "Cinnamon Girl" is next and has some nice hooks and a sweet chorus, but I found myself wishing for more out of the guitar solo and the bridge. Nice and upbeat, though, and it's growing on me too. "What do u want me to do" sounds a bit bossa nova ("Girl From Ipanema" like) and I liked it but it's not a hit. The next one, "The Marrying Kind", was one of my least favorite cuts. Sounded to me like something out of the old "Rocky Horror Picture Show", u know, the musical cult classic lol. The next song, "If I was the man in your life", found me wanting to push the forward button. "On the Couch" is a slow as molasses ballad, which sounded to me like a dull therapy session. The last two songs were for me two of the best in the whole album. "Dear Mr. Man" is great, with great lyrics, and could be a nice hit if released as a single. And finally "Reflection" sounds great, maybe even better than the acoustic version from the Smiley show. Overall, good album, worth listening to, but I know I'll be making my own copy minus a few songs that just don't do anything for me. Must I become naked? No image at all? | |

this sounds like a more realistic review. sounds like another rave/hit-all-markets-by-any-possible-means record. the second songs title sounds really dodgy, any time prince talks about pimps, it doesnt seem to work. and any hip hop attempts wil be getting the FF treatment instantly.
