Musicology: Easily one of Prince's best albums ever.

Nope it's not "Purple Rain", nor "Sign O' the Times", nor "1999". However, "Musicology" is definitely a classic Prince album. Everything that defines Prince is is on it, and it sounds vibrant, new, and inspired. I am not gonna go through the album song by song. You can make up your own mind. However, I do feel that if you can't dig this album on some level then you probably needed to get off of the purple bus long ago.

It is a nice album. Not classic but nice. Like "The Gold Experience" 2 me. I think the last classic was "Rainbow Children", but this is more friendly 2 regular or common folk. It's up there though.

I'm not ready to say that this is one of Prince's best albums ever. But I sure am enjoying it right now.

I'm fair to Midland on it so far. But I don't really think it can be counted as one of Prince's best if it's not on par with the albums you named above.

Im with you on that, too me its nowhere near as good as anything pre-Lovesexy/Black Album.

Production doesnt quite cut it for me, someone get Tchad Blake over there wink

Maybe its a grower, my favourite Bowie album is one i hated at first (The Man Who Sold The World). So who knows...

So far all the shit talkin on this album is totally unjustified. The only complaint with validity is one of personal taste. I'm not crazy for Musicology or Reflection but I've seen others praise it. Matter of personal taste.

Now the rest of the album is worthy of being held in as high esteem as any of his best albums. "Marrying Kind" just floored me when I first heard it. This is by far my favorite track off this album and will stand as one of my top faves of the trax he's released in the last 4 years. ICP&Circumstance is funky as hell and while I understand some peoples initial disappointment in the clip of "Call My Name" that was available from a recent radio interview, that track really comes through and by the end you totally forget that you were ever disappointed.

The musicianship is there to be heard on the album. Some people are acting as if the entire venture is studio trickery when you clearly have the band contributing to a large portion of the album. This album is so strong. It didn't come from out of left field like Rainbow Children but the material here will stand the test of time. He's in form here and if you can't hear that you need an ear transplant (probably a brain transplant too giggle

I haven't stopped listening to this album. It's fantastic nod

Agreed! What a fun little album! It sounds like Prince is having fun. The album doesn't try too hard, doesn't outstay it's welcome and says what it needs to say is as little time as possible. He took his time and it payed off. Good job!

I would almost have to agree. it is one of his most rounded albums. Rounded, sonicaly, lyricly, and stylisticly.
