I am happy that the new album is getting away from jazz and back into the pop

Don't get me wrong I love "the Rainbow Children". However, in many ways, I like "Rave un2 the Joy Fantastic" better and, although "Musicology" doesn't sound like "Rave", I am glad that Prince is getting back to the the traditional Prince salad of funk, pop, rock, etc.

I am excited by the fact that I can play "Musicology" at a party, or in the car, with friends, without having a darth vader narration/storyline/opera.

I think a lot of us like to gloss over the fact that, besides being a serious musician/innovator, Prince is gifted writer of pop songs that don't really sound like everyone else's pop songs. I dunno just my 2 cents... happy new album listening.

I totally agree man.

I like TRC too, but I've just really missed the classic Princely pop/rock/funk/soul etc. sound that he's so great at.

Some of the more jazzy numbers on TRC just didn't do it for me. It ain't my genre.

I haven't heard the new album yet, but it's great to see Prince get back to basics like this.

Seems like he's made a really good pop album with Musicology.

I wonder if the next album will be something really artistically daring, maybe kind of like the jump he made from Parade to SOTT back in the day?

actually that artistic jump that he made would have been the jump from "rave" to TRC... there was a HUGE artistic jump there... right now, i'd say that he's in his safe zone...
