The Musicology Soundscan idea.

I just thought of something interesting--I have this feeling the cd's he gives away during the concerts and the movie will count as sold cds; meaning they may have been scanned through a scanner as sold, before given to you all. That would mean, even if the album is not on sale yet, it would already carry a false positive sale. Prince could go platinum, without actually selling the albums. Even the cds that were left behind would be counted as sold cds. Because the concert ticket was bought, and in essense, the cd is part of the price. This is how Prince makes soundscan cheat a bit. Pretty clever little fellow, eh?

And many will actually buy the album again, so Prince will make out like a bandit. lol

Yup, thats exactly how it can work... and submit those sales all the first week when the album comes out... meaning he will have the biggest selling first week album so far for the year... putting him in the same company as eminem and justin timberlake for massive first week sales...

it can all be done, all they have to do is submit it to soundscan, i know with the bands we manage on the road that sell cd's at shows those are submitted to soundscan each week... so its perfectly legal...

garth brooks sells double cd sets for the price of one to jack up his cd sales,, cause a double cd set counts as two cd's sold.... so when you look at the sales on that outkast record, remember the acutal sold number is half of what you're seeing.

Yeah , might want to keep an eye on the album chart the next couple weeks. I thought Billboard recently changed their methodology to include internet downloads too.

Regardless, with 12,000 copies handed out at the Reno show , the LA show and all the downloads, if they do count as scanned Musicology will show up in next weeks album chart .

Something tells me Soundscan bases their data off of retail outlet sales only , unless P found away around this

See, I knew it! dancing jig I feel proud of myself.

More than likely, they won't post the album on the charts until the release date. That is a way to make the album seem to sell even more.

Devious little Prince. no no no! Gonna call the Watchtower this instant.
