Joke on Musicology Packaging?

In the corner it has "**" to indicate the music NOT performed by Prince. The only astericks I see are the single ones next to "Reflection" and "What Do U Want Me 2 Do?" to indicate "previously released."

Intentional joke or just sloppy packaging for a promotional copy? Either way it's cool. wink

heh, yeah, that must be a joke indeed. Nice. lol

On a related note, is the cd you get at the concert completely with artwork, lyrics, etc?...

I think it's an oversight...there are female backing vocals on the album, and there are horns...clearly there are other folks performing on this album, yah?

Nope, just came in a simple cardboard sleeve with the root pattern on it, but no pic of him, and musicology written across it. Someone posted an ebay link on here...no liner notes either.

Regarding the asterisks, I wondering if that might point to some of the rumoured "extra material" we'd get on the store-bought versions? Dunno. I mean, Candy's clearly on this CD, so they might have just left the asterisks off.

That is my thinking - these are promo copies so there are no internal liner notes. There may have been or be liner notes that the double astericks refer to. There are some parts that Prince is not doing on the record. My guess is that he has Blackwell on the drums for all of thesongs - not unlike he did on The Rainbow Children CD.

No, im sure thats not a joke. Its just legal mumbo jumbo just in case. Its on all the disks.

Okay, let me see if I can explain this. These discs are designed as promos, so they don't have any of the interior art, packaging or liner notes. The promo sleeve was probably struck from the copy that is going onto the album, so it will have notations for things that actually refer to the liner notes. The asterisks are notations for credits that will appear inside the booklet of the CD when its released to stores. Its not a joke, though I can see how some would get that idea. Its just really due to the fact that these giveaway discs are lacking their full packaging. Hope this helps answer your question.

The joke is how the background almost looks like old, dried-out stems from the flowers used in the Purple Rain artwork.

eek I was thinking that all day eek I had the sleve across my office against my stereo where I could see it. That came to mind. That is funny shite.

The other thing I noticed.. Last night and this morning the printing on the sleve looked grey-blue... but this afternoon it got really purple. Vierd cool

It was kinda like how there was baisically no bass in the movie theatre until near the end of the concert.

Could be lack of sleep. confused
