Prince and CD timings

What is up with Prince and his CD timings? Why is Emancipation exactly 3 hours, NPS exactly an hour, N.E.W.S exactly 78 minutes, and Rainbow Children 70 minutes? What point is he trying to make? Often he'll put in unnatural, strange things into the music to extend the disc - the last bit of Mr. Happy, the unnecessary noodling on N.E.W.S, and silent tracks on NPS. Oh, and I just bought Rainbow Children - what is his point with tracks 16-20 and the eery moment at the end? ("One, One, One, One, One...")

Your NEWS CD must contain the hidden tracks "Southeast," "Northeast" and "Due West" because my CD is only 55:56 in length. Each track is about 14 minutes long.
Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/
