Latin Playboys-"Dose". It's Sonically and lyrically risk-taking, very rhythmic, and more than a little weird.

Terence Trent D'Arby- Introducing The Hardline According To Terence Trent D'Arby
One of my favorite albums of all time...funky! Very Prince inspired... If You All Get To Heaven If You Let Me Stay Wishing Well I'll Never Turn My Back On You (Father's Words) Dance Little Sister Seven More Days Let's Go Forward Rain Sign Your Name As Yet Untitled Who's Lovin' You Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Giant Steps by The Boo Radleys.
Why? 'Cos it's AMAZING! I think any P fan would love it.

"The Best of The Classical Experience" - which is a compilation of classical peices and excerps which originally appeared on "The Classical Experience 1 + 2".
Why? Because it has many of the most genius peices of classical compositions by many of the most genius classical composers. Unspoiled by misplaced lyrics....except for the opera of course, although its all in Italian or German anyway so I dont understand it. "...because no-one gets there alone." - "...I like the floor. It's the only thing that seems real."

REM - Automatic for the People
This is a perfect album, from start to finish. Also, Mahler Symphony Number 2, conducted by Kaplan. While I'm thinking about it, Barenaked Ladies, Gordon is pretty damn good also! Finally, I would say Tracy Chapman's first album. Peace!

Marcus Miller -- Tales.
Marcus is all about the groove. Whether dropping a ballad, a funk jam, a bass-driven blues romp or straight jazz, Mr. Miller impresses. Incidentally, I've often found Prince & MM have similar harmonic-minor leanings. They have a lot in common, actually. "Tales" shows off M's chops, singing, arranging, instrumentation and writing. And, he does a wicked cover of "Come Together."

Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
Just cuz it's one of the best albums ever made. Sprawling like Sign O' The Times, with a great mix of commercial and experimental tracks. Fantasic Songwriting and inspired musicianship. Plus, if you haven't heard it before, you'll still recognise half the tracks on there cuz it's been covered and sampled to death over the years. And if you still need convincing just listen to... I Wish, As, Sir Duke, Love's In Need Of Love Today or Pastime Paradise ...I rest my case.

Take a gander at Radiohead's "OK Computer" or "The Bends". Then you could try "Meat is murder" by The Smiths . Another album that is good is the most recent RHCP "By the Way". Rick Rubin is an impossible genius. The las alternative or punk alt album I'll recommend is The Mars Volta "De-loused at the comatorium". It's a concept album that is personal to the group( tragedies and death ), but the music is phucking incredible. That's all 4 now Jeux Sans Frontiers

Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 by George Michael
On his album FAITH there was a lot of Prince-like songs, but on this album George provided his own unique vision as an accomplished singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. The album embraces a variety of styles and like Prince's classic albums is thoroughly enjoyable from top to bottom.

Space Is The Place - Sun Ra (CD and DVD)
The antithesis of pop music. A Prince fan would be open-minded...Right? Therefore they'd be willing to experience another form of musical expression. (Experimental, free form improvisation, non-mainstream. Hell, you can even singalong to the title cut.) Very interesting question, because Prince covers a lot of bases, attracting people from different starting points.
Perhaps inevitably, Boris' choice is a great pick because of its roots, breadth and quality of material. Personally, I don't think any other artist has offered such a substantial work (epitomised in SITKOL) in the last 30 years which can appeal to a mass audience, unstinting in its musicianship and songcraft, without compromising on artistic integrity. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I'd say just pick up The Very Best of Pink Floyd.
They're undeniably original and , just like Prince, not always appreciated at first listen. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Oh... my answer to the question: King Britt/Sylk130 'When the Funk Hits the Fan' why? because it's super slept on, soulfully funky with a hip hop feel appeal to it... and I see it as sort of a precursor to this Philly 'neo' soul rebirth. All of which should make an open-minded Prince fan curious enough to try it [This message was edited Sat Mar 27 15:20:03 2004 by JumpUpOnThe1] ********************************************
